748/999 Build

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Russ21, Oct 20, 2019.

  1. I gave the bits to the engineer and he did the rest. Was totally down to him. I did wonder why he took it down that route, but didn’t ask questions. I thought it was well priced at £100.

  2. Jeez - extremely 'well priced' at £100. Wish I had someone to do wire-eroding near me for that sort of money! Nice one

  3. Sounds like I got a bit of a deal lol. It’s a company called Newham Engineering in Lancing, West Sussex if you’re local. He did have it for about 3 weeks, trying to fit it it around other projects

  4. Had some time over the Christmas period to fit the new rad and new silicone hoses. Rads good quality as are the hoses. Need to make a couple of brackets for the oil cooler TMW and that’s pretty much the cooling side of things done.

Still in two minds wether to run the stock 748 loom and ECU and get it mapped, or swap it all out for 998 ECU and loom. I’ve a 998 ECU lined up, but trying to find a complete 998 loom is almost impossible...

  5. I know a couple of people who could make you bespoke loom.

  6. That could absolutely be an option. If I could grab some details, that would be great. Pro Twins wanted £700 + VAT for a 998 Loom, but have me a great price on a new, old stock ECU.

  7. I sold my 998 loom a couple of years ago for about £300. They do appear but not often.

  8. Russ, are you going to run std clocks or a digital dash? I got the front loom connector (21 pin) made up with 500mm wires from mike Bosman. Now surplus to requirements if needed.

  9. I’ll keep my eyes out for a loom for a couple of months, of I don’t have any joy then decided what to do. Would make sense fitting 998 loom and ECU and running a pretty much plug and play system. Saves taking the bike to Bristol for mapping on the stock stuff.

I’ll be running the standard clocks, if you’ve a front loom going spare, I’ll gladly take it of yours hand mate :upyeah::grinning:

  12. After a little help/advise.
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced radiator repair company? I’d like to get the oil cooler repaired before it goes back on the bike. It’s not leaking, just a little worse for wear.

  13. Is it expensive to make new looms, do they need the old loom to use as a pattern

  14. I had a bespoke engine loom made up for my Integrale from scratch when the engine was rebuilt.

Used aerospace grade cables and fitting etc, and came out great. Was about £250 from memory. I’d imagine a 998 loom from scratch will be a bit more expensive.

  15. If you spent less time wandering on the beach you would get this project finished!!!!

  16. Who did the wiring? Maybe they can do a bike loom.

At least the 998 is pre CANBUS
