My brother is buying a 748R but it has 45-50mm collector pipes which to me look different to every other part that I have seen. Every part I have seen has two bolts welded to attach the heat shield.( Red arrows ) These pipes seem to have a bracket welded which as mentioned seem different to all the others I have seen. Does anyone know what they are off and what heat shield is needed ? Cheers
Haven’t got a clue Chris. He hasn’t got the bike yet but was going to get a carbon guard but didn’t know what to get. It looks bigger bore than 50mm to me
mines a 2002r the shield attaches to the two brackets - the lower one sits obscured behind the heel plate does that help?
Yours will be like the standard fitting as shown in the diagram. It’s the different design bracket that we are trying to get a heatshield for. I am wondering if Chris is correct and is it off a race bike. The standard heatshield like your steel one hits the heel plate.
Correct. You can see where your OE bracket is shaped to fit behind the heel guard if you zoom in and compare to the pic of the carbon heat shield in my pic. I believe it’s a Type D
Ah right, I couldn’t see your bracket so thought it was the same fitting as the exploded diagram which is for a 748R. So a carbon heat shield the same as original will fit ok. Are your collector with that different bracket standard or a certain version. Thanks guys.
TBH I cannot remember but both our 748’s have Termis on. My bike had the original exhaust cans with it but I cannot recall if they had a separate link pipe. If it’s got Termis on it then that is most likely your answer.
