749/999 Cambelts breaking?

  1. Right, hence checking and re-tensioning is imperative if you're going to push the replacement interval.

  2. Pablo...are the ST3 belts the same as the 900ss and ST2 belts? If so, £38 a pair plus postage. Though there will be a price rise to £45 a pair in April.......

  3. Not to sure about re-tensioning ducati belts . I was warned off doing it as I used to . The belts are set at 110 Hz but the run tension after bedding in is about 95Hz if you re-tension you will be taking them above what they are supposed to run at I imagine that could cause over stretching. I have put new belts on my 999 and then run it for about 200 miles then rechecked the tension and sure enough they were at 95 Hz . Theres no re-tensioning of belts by ducati techs.

  4. Considered removing the covers for ease-of-access, could see immediatly their condition? Not overhappy with catching small children/rodents/badgers in the pulleys...

    Hum...

Belt windows - can see at a glance any obvious fraying/looseness, plus more whirry bits to observe when its running! :upyeah:

  5. Hi Nog

Belts are the same as the 1000DS.

  6. Think you've hit the nail,on the head there.

Correct tension with regular use should see the belts last well beyond two years or 12k miles.

Also, as regards Ducati techs not retensioning, maybe that is the case in main dealers. In my experience with techs that have been liberated from the tyranny of dealership are happy to check and tension belts, even of Desmoquatros as long as proper Kevlar reinforced belts were used in the first place.
