749 Eobd Engine Half Power

  1. Hi guys,
I've gotten an unusual problem with my 749 from 2004.
Last night, while driving in the freeway, the EOBD light turned on and at the same time, the engine reduced speed. Even though I held the throttle back.
It turned off and the engine ran normally again. This continued for 5-7 minutes untill the oil indicator light turned on. So I quickly filled it with oil.
    I have 2 issues.
    1. In the heat of stress and confusion, I filled up with full-synth oil. Previously it was semi-synth. Note that I havent changed the oil filter. The oil indicator shows its fully loaded and the indicator light is turned off.
    2. The engine keeps on running at reduced power while the EOBD light is on. After running af few minutes its turns off, and a few minutes later it turns on again.

    What do I do?
Can I drive it home with the EOBD light switching on and off while the oil light is off? I have about 80 kilometers home.
Should I avoid highways & freeways?

    Regards Michael

  2. What fault codes are you getting?

  3. There is no codes showing on the display. It just turns on the EOBD and runs on half power.

  4. Do you know how to get the codes up?

  5. There's no issues with the fact you mixed synthetic and semi-synth oil, it just lessens the efficacy of the synthetic oil that's all.

  6. No i dont. I'm completely new on this bike.

  7. Good to know. Thanks.

  8. Turn off all power
    Hold down left dash/clock button
Turn on ignition and keep button pressed down.

This should give you the fault code/s

  9. Just got this code. - 10.2 Hor. Coil shorted to earth.

  10. Disconnect the front coil connector and clean it up.

A new coil would prob be needed though.

  11. I'm having a hard time locating the coil. Been trying googling, youtube and manual.

  12. front cylinder behind the v panel which you will need to remove..
images.jpeg this behind the front wheel so both side fairings off and then this one bolt and the coil comes off.

if you have the early type of coil it wont have a lead on it just a connector, get a later type coil with a fly lead remove the old lead at the connector...which might be a bitch to get at behind the battery box!!!!
