916 Restoration

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Leesey, Mar 26, 2020.

  1. Not original matey

  2. So the bolt came free!!! :)

I tried winding it back in again and it came loose. But as with every good news story there is some bad news.

the nut that was holding it in to the frame came loose and not the bolt so after cutting the head off the Bolt tho is what I’m left with.
All advice is great fully received as always.

is it just a case of putting a bit the other side and putting new bolts in?

    thanks Jon

  8. No more work been done on the bike as it’s more major things like wheels need refurbing, new tyres and then a respray and the rear shock being refurbed. Oh and getting it in at the start of next year to @nelly for a Desmond service (as I don’t know when it was last done) This will be done over winter, if there are any suggestions for a Good wheel refurber preferably in South Yorkshire or surrounding area I’m open to suggestions. anyway here are some pictures.

    Thanks for looking Jon

  11. Thanks much appreciated

I need a new camera however I’ve been out the game for that long that all decent cameras seem soooo expensive now .

    really want a new dslr.

Here are some of the trip I took with the wife to the Ayrshire / Dumfries and Galloway/ Strathclyde and Loch Lomond last September on the GS before it was written off. It was an amazing bike and I would have another in a heartbeat. (And I don’t class myself as old as I’m only 31)

  14. Question.

I have had the front brake callipers off to look at them and one of the pistons seems to have seized. Any ideas how to free this. I will say that this winter the brakes are being stripped down and rebuilt with new brake lines etc.

  15. Block the others and pump out if still on the bike, if off and stripped try gripping and turning the piston after soaking in release fluid :upyeah:

  16. Another option would be to clamp all the free pistons to stop them coming out & then pump grease into the caliper with a grease gun. Never fails & much safer than using compressed air !!:joy:

  18. Start applying penetrating fluid to the swingarm pivot bolt as well, do it daily, for as many days as possible. It will make life easier when you come to remove it, as you should do.
