916 Sps Build. Only Been Stood For 7 Years

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by FirePhil, May 6, 2019.

  1. Nice:upyeah:. How did you manage to a) bring back the glossy finish so well and b) repair the holes/dents/scratches?
    TIA

  2. Problem is I'm tight and think I can do a better job Messer! Nut is now tapped and will be glued when I get the new cover. Thinking of vacuum casting a carbon seat when I strip the bike down in winter...

  3. Light sand, finishing on 800 grit, 2 coats of universal lacquer. The repairs have carbon mat either inlaid after I cut the damage away or resined on top. I need to get a matching smaller weave to make it perfect. Again, something for winter!

  6. Everything else. Some bits left on, Airbox, headlight bracket and front lower radiator cover. Another time when everything comes off!

  9. Apart from the carbon, the cast iron discs needed attention, as I cleaned and serviced the caliper. Why does one job lead to several others, all with their own problems! I found out that Ducati disc bolts are made of cheese and you don't use a rounded allen key to get them out. SO after watching several videos and searching this lovely forum..... I bought a brand new 6mm half inch drive socket for my impact driver. Sprayed WD40 on every surface and after a day, heated up every individual bolt with a blow torch. Left said wheel on an oil radiator to heat the hub up, while I contemplated coffee, life and where you can get Ducati cheese from!
Hammer in said 6mm socket using an old extension bar.
Hammer with a punch onto the heads of the bolts so that they grip the socket.
    Pray to the racing gods.
    Attach impact driver.
    Large gulp of coffee.
    Press trigger of power tool.
    Curse.
    Put power tool in reverse.
Yay, One bolt out, repeat X11

  10. With the discs off, I noticed how poor the fasteners looked. One job down, another created. 20190511_125846.jpg 20190511_125855.jpg
So 50 titanium E clips and washers needed to put the discs back together whilst I loom up how to refurb cast iron.
    Forever Onward!

  11. This is great. I think you’ve done a fantastic job on the carbon fibre, you’ve got to look closely to see the repairs. If you didn’t know where they were you’d never spit them.

How did you split the bobbins please to separate the rotor from it’s carrier ?

  12. Isn’t there a kind a circlip that holds it in.

For the decals, eBay is your friend. Try and find out the font, measure size you need, plenty of custom makers on there

  13. The top hat goes between the carrier and the disc, washer on top, then e or c clip holds it on with a blob of epoxy to stop the clip coming off 20190511_200315.jpg 20190511_200340.jpg 20190511_200415.jpg

  14. Had a preliminary trawl through Ebay, problem I encountered was that everything is marked as Ducati Corse, nothing has an A on the end. Think I'll have to use retro decals again, he does some great retro mtb stickers, but not cheap!

  15. Search ‘bespoke decals’ or something like that. Find a seller, then find the font and email seller with what you want and see if they can do it. Few quid at worst

  18. On the bobbins, I used to often trawl through American ebay and find quite a few nos parts but also italian ebay

  19. What does “Corsa” mean? The correct Italian word for racing is “corse “ so maybe you should replace both or...take them off?
