I've recently started using my 916 more and finally starting to feel more confident on it. I've spent a lot of time and money getting how I want it but I've not adjusted the suspension yet. Just after some advice on what other people have done to theirs. Any advice would be appreciated. Haydn
I've just been through all this. Get the shock serviced and springed up for your weight then a suspension setup. Night and day difference! I was going to have my forks done as well but don't want the bike off the road any more this year. So they'll get sorted this winter. A full shock service and new spring should be about £230 ish and basic suspension setup about £30 ish. Best money you can spend on the bike.
I called 100% suspension after a tip from here. He has a calendar on his website and you can rock up at one of the track days he covers and he'll do a setup for you and also give his opinions on if you need the forks/shock rebuilding. I just need to find a free day and some cash.
The forks will benefit from an oil change at the very least! And a re-gas for the rear shock. It should then with a decent basic setup give u the confidence you need. From speaking with suspension specialists a while back they said the forks were pretty good. Just benefit from fresh oil and good set up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I spent a lot of time last year tweeking the suspension on my 996. As stock I felt that the suspension felt too hard and turn in was very slow. I started off using PB Magazines settings and that improved things no end, especially dropping the front. New tyres making sure I used a 180 rear also improved things. After that, besides lightening the bike drastically, I found 2 things made the most difference. Firstly, fitting an Ohlins rear in place of the Showa made a massive difference. I was really quite surprised. It transformed the bike. It felt so much smoother around the bends and I could "feel" the road much better. The 2nd thing I did was to swap the OE steering dampner for an Ohlins one. That really seemed to help turn in and steering feel. I still feel the bike could turn in a bit quicker, so I might switch to the more aggressive steering angle and see if that helps. I also need to get the front forks revalved as I am sure they havent been touched since the bike was produced and I expect I will probably see a similar improvement as I did with upgrading my rear shock.
