  1. Tonight I have been fitting the new chain and sprocket (haven’t cut the chain down yet!.
Also fitted my exhausts, new exhaust guard, rear brake setup and front higher (got my carbon back from being re lacquered, looks so much better than the faded battered stuff I started with!

  2. Looking good and squeaky clean. It'd be shame to use it and get it dirty ;)

  3. Bit more done, sorted the chain, fitted rear wheel and hugger and torqued everything up.

Finished replacing all the water hose jubilee clips too and torqued front axle up.

  5. Looking superb.

Q: Could I get a similar level of finish from cleaning items rather than zinc-plating? Your swingarm, rear axle and nuts look brand new(!)

  7. Imho, no.
Once the plating has deteriorated, I don't think you'll get the finish back without re-plating, replacing with new oem or with stainless/titanium.
I went down the route of stainless and titanium, as the oem fasteners are notoriously soft and stainless and titanium can always be polished to as-new - not correct for a restored bike though...

  8. On that basis, when restoring my 99MY 748 this winter should I be replacing the original nuts & bolts or replacing with stainless which is what I was going to do?

  9. Your choice.
Depends if you’re going for absolutely correct and original.
Not sure about stainless but I think you can get coloured titanium fasteners, so maybe gold-coloured titanium is the answer??

  12. Definately go the stainless/titanium route for all fixings if and where possible. Less hassle all round...
