996 Tacho Not Working

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Dallypro, Jun 14, 2025.

  1. Did you take the plug boot off? Terminals are numbered.

  2. and if you look with a strong light and maybe magnification, I think the numbers are moulded into the body?

  3. I replied but deleted as it was confusing things

Ok, 100% the Tacho is coming from PIN 24 not 12

I was counting them the wrong way

  4. Snip the cable ties get the boot off and look other side of plug.

  5. Ignore my picture. (Trying to do this on my iPad!!!!)
The counting goes bottom left pin 1. Then down to bottom right for pin 19.

  8. Yeah, that's a great spot! Clears up a question mark.

  9. I'll take it back what I said about wiring diagrams, sorry Haynes!

  10. And therefore.......

If anyone in South Wales, South West (or within realistic distance of south West Wales) has a 996 Bioposto with a 16M ECU apart for servicing this winter and wouldn't mind a few swap and changes of ECUs and tachos for fault finding....let me know!

  11. While your waiting for parts, you can now test the circuits correctly, so you can prove it?
