  1. I've been mulling it over. Can't be too hasty about these things :Hilarious:

  2. :upyeah: It was special (needs) :)

  3. maybe the uprated engine does not give more power,,, really ???

  4. Well that was a lot of help to the poor guys' original post

  5. 05 Ducatis HP figure - True or BS?? [Archive] - Ducati Sporting Club

Here is a thread from 2005 that explains the situation. Most of the power increases from Ducati in 2005 were due to a change in measuring BHP from the rear wheel to the crank. I knew the 05 R had some Engine Tweaks but didn't know what exactly so thanks for the link. What we don't know in standard trim is if these actually raised the BHP of the road bike without any kit parts added. From the BHP gains from 04 to 05 it appears if this is the case then it is only 1 or 2 BHP but possibly not at all.
So, what I am saying is don't get hung up on the power differences between the two - I was only giving presumably factual information which this link seems to confirm.

For the OP, I have a standard 999R and a 999R Fila. There are many people who give information, some of which is wrong. I am happy to help all I can with information and advice on value. If you get more info then let me know via a PM. I bought mine as investments and have followed the 999R values closely over the last 3 years.

I don't know all about the 999R's but it would be interesting to lay out all the facts one day so the post regarding the engine changes was interesting for me - I was however correcting an erroneous quote that the BHP increase was nothing to do with the change in measuring method, which another poster had intimated to be the case. I had already corrected another erroneous post from the same person, maybe he was a little annoyed at this, I don't know. The change in measurement does appear to be the predominant factor in this instance, which may upset owners of the later models which have lower spec bodywork i.e. plastic seat units instead of Carbon as I understand.

And for those that wish to comment when they actually know fuck all about the subject, keep it shut :)

Always happy to help where I can.

  6. Good link but doesn't tell us any more info. It doesn't say the hike was anything to do with a different measurement but it does appear that this happened in 2004. They state 11 BHP more. This equates to roughly what the different measurement would give without the engine changes, which wouldn't necessarily benefit the road version without subsequent kit parts.
The measurement change wasn't publicised but did happen in 2004.
My understanding is that Ducati used to measure either at the crank or the output shaft. The 11% difference could be equated to rear wheel to crank measurement. A lesser difference of circa 8% from output shaft to rear wheel would leave a 3% increase due to the mods (without the addition of kit parts).
My intention earlier was not to argue with anyone, my interest is the 999R and the truth, which is often miss quoted regarding these bikes. Like the black swing arm being WSB spec when it is far from it.

  7. Thanks guys n gals, I'm looking at it cos it's cheap, no code card or second key, service history is unknown
I agree the tyres looks like it's been raced but the dealer says no..... right. Gonna go and check it out in the flesh next week so will see, if I can chip them down in price.......

  8. if it has no code card i believe that can be rather expensive if some electrical things go wrong.

  9. What do you call cheap - what's the mileage? A good example sold recently on Ebay for £9500 asking price presumably having had 1 bid on auction with reserve not met at £9k start price previously. Considering this, if similar mileage (about 10k I think) but with no history, possibly tracked regular - dealer seems defensive of the evidence? No 999R goodies with it including the plaque I guess? No key card or red key? Seems £7K is somewhere near - although if it needs an engine re fresh you could buy a fully documented UK one and ultimately better off, especially on re sale, so maybe £6K?
Giz a clue :) and let us know how you get on!

  10. I read on the forum £200 to get it read electronically

  11. It's got 8500 miles on it, it's on sale at 7500 euros which is £ 5856 negotiable, I've always wanted an R already got the Bip, so I'm going to look next week and haggle hard, it's probably something I'd keep for a few years anyway, it should increase in value over the years???

  12. If I'd known the girls were gonna get their handbags out I wouldna bothered lol

  15. Because really I'm looking at one bike and it is what it is, I was looking for advise about this particular bike not looking to hear about how they changed the engine on the 05 model or whatever or where they measure it at, having said that I did have a chuckle at the girls handbagging, oh I also put a "lol"at the end of my last comment... Happy?

  16. I couldn't give a monkeys.
You asked questions about the r frame as you dont know about them. I gave you the answer plus more info about making sure you dont get burnt.

I never mentioned about power etc.

If you want to buy a foreign ex race/track bike with no history, card or keys good luck to you.

I look forward to not helping out with your questions when it all goes wrong.

  19. FE didn't get into the debate re BHP on the refresh model, it was someone else and I was just correcting their statement, as I did on the headlight comment which was relevant to the model you are looking at. You disliked FE's valid point which is exactly the kind of info you were asking for as was mine. People can sit on the side lines and spout about handbags all they like - it's a forum after all - but they are the ones not contributing to your questions so fuck em, even if you seem to agree with their sentiments ;)

So I was close at £6K but that is a good price and yes, it can only go up in value as they seem to have done significantly over the last two years. Much better than a depreciating asset and a fab bike - hope you get it!

What other bikes do they have in stock? :)
