  1. Ducati wanted to give all the Ducatisti and enthusiasts attending WDW2014 a special treat with a world-first preview of the new colour scheme for the Hypermotard SP. The SP version, the most extreme in the Hypermotard family, features all the technical characteristics one expects from a Hypermotard and improves on them further to satisfy even the most expert, demanding riders who have a preference for peak performance riding. Moreover, the new racy red-white colour scheme gives the Hypermotard SP a harder-hitting look.
Being a thoroughbred sport bike, the Hypermotard SP just had to be unveiled by two exceptional endorsers: three-times world SBK champion Troy Bayliss, who won the 2001, 2006 and 2008 championships on three different Ducati Superbike models, and the 2011 World Superbike Champion Carlos Checa. Today, at the International Village in the “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit paddocks, they revealed this superb bike in front of a packed WDW audience.
The Hypermotard SP, like all the bikes in the family, features the latest-generation 110 hp Ducati Testastretta 11° 821 cc engine and a trellis frame. The SP model, in pure racing style, features dedicated Riding Modes (Race 110 hp – “HIGH”, Sport 110 hp – “MEDIUM” and Wet 75 hp – “LOW”) taken from the 1199 Panigale and is equipped with increased-travel suspension that gives it a truly supermotard set-up, allowing for thrilling lean angles of up to 47.5°. All safely too, because the Hypermotard SP comes as standard with the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) featuring 3-level ABS and 8-level Ducati Traction Control derived from the 1199 Panigale.
The Hypermotard SP has a pressurized Marzocchi upside-down 50 mm front fork; fully adjustable, this has a travel of 185 mm and ensures outstanding performance plus great handling. The suspension system also mounts a fully adjustable Öhlins monoshock, with built-in “gas” tank, giving a rear wheel travel of 175 mm.
The Hypermotard SP is also equipped with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyre, 120/70 x 17 at the front and a 180/55 x 17 at the rear. It also sports Marchesini 3-spoke forged aluminium wheels, the design of which has also been taken from the 1199 Panigale S, highlighting the decidedly high-performance nature of the SP model even further.
The SP version is completed by other exclusive components: the variable-section handlebars, the carbon fibre front mudguard and engine covers, the front radial pump with adjustable 5-position lever and the seat.
These extraordinary technical specifications help ensure a dry weight of just 171 kg, while the racing-like chassis set-up of the Hypermotard SP is highlighted by the seat height of 890 mm: nevertheless, a 20 mm lower seat is available on request as a Ducati accessory.
The Hypermotard SP with the new colour scheme will be available from dealers in September at the same price as the previous version. A restricted-power version is also available at the same price.
