my new to me pikes Peak arrived with a full Akrapovic system. Lucky me! But…although it does sound glorious a lot of the time there are a few occasions when it’s sound just plain weird producing odd resonant frequencies that are potentially going to annoy the whatsits out of me unless I can workout out how to ride around it. Or understand it so I can just ignore it as “normal” It’s hard to pin it down to a certain speed or rpm but it’s not at idle and it’s not in the cruise at about 5 k+. It’s around town when you’re on/0ff throttle going relatively slowly in some traffic around 3 to 4k rpm. But…it seems inconsistent as sometimes I don’t even notice it and others it’s reverberating in my helmet making me think my earplugs have fallen out! Or that my helmet is just the perfect sound resonant thing to amplify what’s happening outside. now I do understand that this is a no compromise system that I suspect has been designed to work “best” flat out which it no doubt does but I’m wondering if others with it fitted have experienced similar? I’ve had a good look over it to see if it’s been fitted ok and it’s not rubbing anywhere and apart from one of the ring clamps being very close to the sump guard it looks ok. Could this be the bank deactivation switching in and out? Mines a 23 model and IIRC that’s essentially only an idle thing, but potentially the Akra could really exaggerate that change with its reduced silencing. My direct and recent comparison is my V4S with stock exhaust with the Akra end can which is what I would call civilised, so it could be that I am just too used to that as I’m only a few hundred miles in on the new bike and maybe I just need to acclimatise…Others experience would be great to hear.
