1098 Another Cracked Speedo Display!

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by DRR117, Mar 9, 2017.

  1. I'd also be interested to hear what your email from Tim has to say about th issue ;)

  2. But wouldn't you then be looking at a bike that it won't happen to instead of one that it could potentially happen to?

  3. If you look at the post for fixing the screen he says the acrylic is highly scratch prone even from light wiping and likely to need periodic changing as a result. Not sure how it will hold up to UV and vibration ongoing. It's less than ideal although better than a huge crack for sure.

  4. I might paint the surround not sure yet, I'll see what I think. Plus I might try polycarbonate as well as acrylic sheet
JHC have quoted me today £687.90 +VAT
    For a new one.
you never know this might fix the fogging as well:tearsofjoy:

  5. I put bob heath anti fog visor treatment on my new front before fitting. Over a year now with no fogging.

Did they sort in the end? Had the same on my 899 parked in the sun by the pit in Almeria in Feb. dealer not getting a response from Ducati yet and I've just flipped now out of warranty!

  7. Fitted a DP tinted screen to my 899 the other week, sounds like I ought to be covering the dash up then if I park in direct sunlight.

  8. Any updates on this, its gone very quiet very quickly?

  9. Yeah I throw a micro fibre towel over mine...when I remember to that is!

  10. I'm on my 2nd replacement dash. The 1st replacement cracked 200 miles after being fitted. Ducati agreed to replace but I was out of warranty by then so I have to pay the labour (only 1 hour).
I'm convinced it must be under some sort of stress, or lack of damping, that's exacerbating the issue. I'll maybe have a look at how the dash is mounted when I get a chance.

  11. I think you can probably work the likely scenario out. Ducati have offered some assistance to silence the issue and everyone else can do one. Pretty much what i expected really and can't blame the op if that is the case.

The moral is, if your screen cracks, be very vocal in as many places as you can and you may get a result.

  12. Just out of mild curiosity do those of you that have old cars (or any other consumable product for that matter) go back to the manufacturer asking for it to be fixed FOC should something go wrong, citing poor design or inferior materials? Just curious you understand.......

  13. I don't think anyone wanted it FOC, they just wanted to buy a part not a whole unit.

  14. Hope not................

  15. Exactly this for me, I don't and wouldn't expect anything F.O.C out of warranty period...

What would be nice though is if Ducati were to recognise there is an issue here and acknowledge their loyal customers need for a reasonably priced solution to deal with this as and when it happens. Facilitating the supply of replacement dash fronts via an agreement with the manufacturer or via authorised dealerships would be sufficient to make the I'll feelings some have over this go away and put the issue to bed forever!

  17. If u read back u will see everyone without exception said they wanted to "buy" a part but just a part not a whole. Digitek have the part, we don't need a whole dash at £800 which also messes the mileage, just a piece of plastic which in some cases doesn't even make it out of warranty or much beyond.

It's not with any kind of expectation, just a wish.

  18. Hi all, still here and still trying to get something sorted. I have been speaking to Tim Maccabee and in fairness he is trying to help. Still not got to the bottom of the written confirmation that I got from MTA that they do in fact offer this as a seperate part to Ducati.

For the record I never once expected to be able to get a free part, I just loath the fact that Ducati could only offer a complete dash unit, not only is it wasteful to replace the entire unit when mine works perfectly to add salt to injury I would have to have to take the bike to Ducati and pay to have it reprogramed so that my keys would work, and Riders Cardiff tell me they cannot correct the mileage so I would have to put up, or find a specialist to do it.

If I bought the new complete unit I would be taking the front section off to replace mine and essentially left with the back and brand new electronics, which would be a mighty expensive paper weight!

Will feedback as and when I know more, I haven't been silenced in exchange for anything.

  20. Well not having the luxury of being able to throw away best part of a grand just to get a front cover which probably cost a few quid to make
I'm going to have fix what I have.
Incidentally mine has got worse sitting in the garage not going anywhere!

As you can see it's now stripped I just need to take it to work and do the fix
