It's useful to share information on forums, it helps with decision making and warns us of obvious things that could cause an issue. I agree with an above post that lubrication and oil changes are potentially a cause. Manufacturers attempt to increase service intervals as the demand is there for longer miles without service costs. When I ran a Caterham I built, I did all my own servicing and oil changes before and after every track day and probably never more than 1K miles of road use. While this is excessive, the engine was worked hard on track and oil changes are easy. For peace of mind, an oil and filter change half way towards a service can't do any harm if done properly. Honestly, as my bike is newish still, I rarely check the oil window. I don't check tyre pressure before every ride either. Maybe some people do but I get on and ride it most times. If mine did blow up, I wonder if the warranty is good if the oil was shown to be way to low and not checked by me. I'm assuming a light on the dash would warn me of loss of oil pressure in advance but probably not enough to prevent a problem.
What was interesting was comments made by one of the maintenance staff at Metropolis yesterday, and that was that SOME Ducati owners that have bought on PCP hadn't accounted for the £90 +vat per Hour charges to service their bikes, and have bought them back to be told their not covered as thy hadn't kept up with the maintenance schedule, it's good that Ducati are honouring some of the incidents
I try to change the oil at about 3750 as my dealer said the oil looks 'orrible by 7500. Usually it is close to winter when I do this so it is not standing around with dirty oil in it either. Probably all unnecessary with modern oils but old habits die hard and at under £50 can't do any harm.
