They monitor movement in rooms, chair or bed occupancy, doors opening that kind of stuff, meaning you can see them moving around remotely without having to watch, you can see patterns in the graphical data then making it easier to spot if something is amiss. Wife has been trialing a few in our house as part of a project, seem fairly unintrusive and simple set up.

I talked to my dad today after seeing this thread and he says it's something he could be okay with in the future, he remembers how he had to look after his mum when she went into a nursing home and wants to avoid that. Then to break the mood, he tells me he thinks he has glaucoma and has felt he has had it for the last few weeks. Great, nursing home is getting closer. I ask him why he thinks he has that and he says, everytime I try and read or watch tv my eyesight goes foggy and blurry so I think I have glaucoma coming on, I ask him when was the last time he had his eyes tested and he says 6 months ago. I get his glasses, look at them, then ask him dad are your eyes okay now? he replies yes. Can you see the tv and book okay now? He says ish. I ask him to put his glasses on, he said my eye sight has gone all foggy and blurred. I ask him, dad? when was the last time you cleaned your glasses? he replies, 2 or three weeks ago. I think I will kill him before the dementia does
