I was told, slate is now clean but next offence, if within 3 years, will get you points. Mine was only 4 Hours. I can honestly say I didn't learn anything. £95 + half a day off work - better than 3 points.
Speeding course all day long. I've done two now! The first one ~twenty years ago was surprisingly instructive and well delivered. The second one was a hassle but I was still thankful it was not points! Later I got points....
A friend of mine learnt the hard way that his word against a coppers word is meaningless. Cost him over £5000 in costs fees and fines. So unless you have a video of your Speedo doing 60 at that precise time and that your Speedo has been officially calibrated preferably all backed by a statement from copper to say it's true then I'd forget going to court. TB
The people delivering the course said you may be asked if you've been on a course but you're under no legal obligation to tell them. Unless that has changed recently??
Thanks to those who gave their feedback on what happened in the court cases they knew of and in the light of the extra fines and points dished out I have booked the course.
I attended a course for my 82mph infringement outside Silverstone following last years BSB! I found the course very insightful and it was taken by an ex cop motorcyclist, the course is a speed awareness course not a summons and with no fine associated (it’s a course fee) it’s not a prerequisite to advise your insurance As it’s not a police matter, (unless your insurance specifically asks) mine didn’t
Not now. I recently renewed my vehicle insurance and wasn’t asked about my speed awareness course.... they used to ask.
I did the course and it was quite interesting. I actually learned some interesting stuff. Which felt quite peculiar because I thought I knew everything
OP I think you’d be on a hiding to nothing taking it to court - take the speed awareness course This bloke is supposedly very good: http://www.counsel.direct/ might be worth giving him a call/email for some very quick advise but usually you’d only need someone like this if you are trying to avoid a custodial or to avoid a lengthy ban.
I took the court route. Was on an empty dual carriageway, no houses, no pavements, parks etc. The limit was reduced from 70 to 50 then further down the road it reduces to 40. It's done to control traffic flow in the area (Staines/Sunbury). I missed the 50 sign, just didn't notice it. I saw a speed camera van on the far side of the road, checked my speed and started to slow down without braking. There were no other vehicles around and it was a bright sunny day. I had been videoed at 77mph apparently. The problem is, they ask if you're guilty but will not show you the evidence unless you go to court. I said I was in the area but unless I see the pictures I obviously could not confirm it was me. Anyway, the magistrate decided that the appropriate fine should be .........£400. If I was you I would just take the speed awareness course. They can be quite interesting. The first one I did had simulators and I met some nice people. The last one was a bit boring but it was in a hotel which had a nice bar! Good luck.
I volunteered the information anyway and they weren’t interested, the guy on the phone said it’s not a prosecution and therefore they wouldn’t record it (as all insurance calls are recorded) I’m safe until they wipe the tape!
Correct. Renewal quotes are recorded. If they don’t ask it’s irrelevant. You’re no longer bummed for attending speed awareness course’s. I believe it was argued in court that as it was training, it would enhance your driving skills and therefore render you less of a risk to insurance underwriters.
Yeah - but no points - thats the clincher - in 30 years of riding ive never ever had the choice of a speed awareness course...id take that hands down..if youve got that option youd be mad to go to court..
I have just taken the 3 points/£100 fine last week for speeding at 44 mph in a 30mph zone, the speed awareness course was not offered to me
I’ve done two speed courses, first one the lunch facility was splendid, the second not so. Don’t recall the course but feck me did I rag the bike on the way home.
I was once offered speed awareness for 90mph on a DC (70 limit). Couldn't take advantage though so had to take the 3pts. A few years later I got a course for 70 in a 60. Both times in the car.
