Are OEM chains just shite?

  1. The rollers, so chain itself, all look ok its the side plates that look terrible. And I have been using dry lube I think, although the past time I got pissed off and just covered it in WD as well. Still didnt stop it rusting back on its next single run

  2. Motul Factory Line has been lube of choice for about 4 years now Ozz. Very good.

  3. Are OEM chains 'finished' ie have a anodised face plates? I have had aftermarket D.I.D's etc that have all had really hard annodised surfaces which seem to hold off the rust. My 848 just seems to have basic unfinished steel faces to the chain.

TBH, I believe they just rust as well, if your using Dry lube (as I do) its great but designed to go onto a warm chain and then it gets where it needs too, if your leaving the bike it may be worth adding the 'wax' version also as a complementary thing to avoid rust.

tbh if I was doing loads of miles in the wet, I would be using the cheapest decent all purpose chain lube I could and doing it every 2-3 days.

  4. The dry lube is teflon based I think, and the chain wax..? Probably water based. Best to use an old-fashioned oil.

  5. Ive never trusted wax. Oil is oil in my view.
