  3. Ouch. Bad luck Sam. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.
You picked the right place to do it. Bet the food's better than sick-bay back in Blighty. Paella and a bottle of Rioja every day. That'll get you right in no time [IMG]

  4. Best of luck with the recovery Sam.

I've known two people who made full recoveries from awful back injuries, so keep believing. One of my kung fu brothers (now in his 50s) is 12 months into his recovery and doing amazingly well, he got back to training 6 months ago!

  8. Hey guys, I actually just spoke with Sam and he's sounding good. He's been moved from intensive care into the high dependency ward and is able to keep in touch by phone now. He sends his regards and thanks to everyone on here who has posted, all the messages have been passed on. He's getting a bit p*ssed off with the ward he's moved onto , I think it's basically because the nurses are not as hot as in the the other one, but it might be less organised. In my head this is a good sign that he's good to travel back to the UK and get on with stuff which is what he wants. He's running a kind of daily fever thats stopping him from flying but they cannot find anything and we think it's the bodys control of temperature playing up after the injury to the spine so hopefully he'll get back soon.

  17. Don't know you Sam. In 2001 I broke my back in two places three ribs and put my right collar bone threw the skin, doing Weston-super-mare beach race, had to wear a corset type thing for three months and out of work. Came off the top of one of the biggest dunes, did Weston another 9 times straight after that. I always tell people that i won Weston that year the reply always the same no you didn't, I a come back with yes i did the race to the hospital, the first one out of nine riders.
Might make you smile a bit, speedy recovery wishing you well.

  18. It's easier to count the bones I haven't broken boys, including my back in two places, both collar bones, all my ribs, my knee.. the list goes on

You'll be alright Sam, like I said to Dave if you need anything I'm happy to help where and if i can.

  19. Thanks SO much to everyone for all the positive comments and the little stories of recovery after similar traumas. It's hard for me as normally such an active guy to be laying in a hospital bed with no feeling as yet returning (although a little down my lats has appeared recently) and knowing I have months of this yet. Remaining incredibly positive about it all and the doctors say I'm in a very good position to recover well given time. All in all I did 14 ribs, 5 vertebrae, punctured both lungs and fractured my pelvis! Proper job indeed! Being transferred back from Spain over the next couple of days to a London specialist spinal hospital, likely St George's.

Here's hope of a full recovery soon. Always been a quick healer and eager with Physio - wouldn't even know I'd punctured my lungs a couple of weeks back currently!

    Sam
