Icon Battery? Starting Issue

Discussion in 'Scrambler' started by Jono100, Jun 6, 2020.

  1. Can you help?

Looking for suggestions on battery / starting upgrade.

When mine starts it sounds like its only just caught. 4 year old bike always on charge with alarm.
Worried I might get stuck somewhere and have to bump start it.

    Cheers

    Jono

  2. Batteries are frustrating. Being on a battery tender is no guarantee that the battery will survive periods of inactivity. At 4 years old, your battery has lasted longer than some. If you have a digital volt meter, you need to look at what the voltage drop is when pushing the starter button. If it drops below 12 volts, I’m afraid to say it needs replacing. Andy

  3. no metre.. What battery to get

    wears to get one

  4. The preferred option is from Halfords who stock Yuasa batteries. See if they have an AGM option of your OE as the CCA will be a bit higher. Looks like it is a YT12B-4BS which is a pretty standard battery. Andy

  5. Before you go spending money on a battery its probably better to do as Andy says and check the voltage. Your local Halfords will have a multimeter, they're not expensive and will help you diagnose problems in the future.

What are you using to maintain the battery?

  7. Battery maintainer technology has advanced a lot since those were on sale. I replaced the two I had 2 years ago. Just ordered 2 of these, https://no.co/genius2 to replace an Optimiser and a Skyrich. Andy

  9. Team a Yuasa battery up with one of @Exige ‘s cable kits and it will start beautifully

  10. Cheaper than Halfords here (If you have a forum discount card for Halfords it will bring the price closer, not sure discount cards can be used at mo?)
No need whatsoever to fit new cables, waste of money on the Scrambler.
Make sure you get the 210CCA version.

  13. Doesn’t look like it :).

And the Halfords card was discontinued (until further notice) when the first lockdown was announced, which was before @Jono100 joined. ;)

  15. If you are getting slow starter churning, and particularly even if you have a freshly charged, known-quantity battery, then replacing starter leads with thicker section aftermarket items could show a massive improvement in cranking speed. I only say "could" because I don't know if modern Scramblers suffer from this, but virtually every model up until now does.

  16. SEERCHING the intaweb ive found some links for bat leeds that go here but they dont work. does this site sell them

  17. You can make a set up quite easily (and cheaply) yourself if you can solder but if you just want to buy a kit and fit it, then many owners on here have vouched for "Exactfit" cables.
    Have a search on here:-
