I think the 64 was the first device to feature recognisably human speech in games. Impossible Mission was an early example of this - "Stay for a while ... stay forever! Mwahahahahah" C64 had the best sound chip of the day, 8-bit in all its glory.

I once played the Commodore 64 version of Gauntlet for fourteen hours straight. Can't remember what level I reached but my head was swimming with it.
