  1. Started looking at investment fund stocks and shares ISA rather than cash. No idea what I’m doing yet, but got 10 years to build the pot :)

Any good sources? Or reputable businesses to use ?

  2. I saw a similar documentary and the old boy on the motorbike looked really scary :motorcycleduc::p
I guess it's all about the type of riding, the bike and your fitness. I hope to be able to still do adventure riding at 70, big Ducati mid 70's, Vespa 80something. I will also keep up my MTB to a ripe old age if possible.
PS Still a few to go before retirement:cool:

  3. This is an excellent and economical ISA solution: http://www.iii.co.uk/
Suggest that you go in steadily to average out fluctuations - I am currently about 1/3rd cash as I'm expecting a serious crash. Diversify, use good funds until you have a good feel for shares. Morningstar is a good site for checking performances, for example: http://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/funds/snapshot/snapshot.aspx?id=F0GBR06I5Z
Trustnet online magazine is pretty informative. Global Growth stocks such as Rathbone are worth a look. Good luck!

  5. I hope you don't lose your shirt. Shares can go down as well as up, and now we are probably near the end of a lengthy bull market.

  7. Well I've just reread the whole of this thread and it's made me consider my choices far more carefully.
We are going to holiday in Portugal to see what we both think.
For those seasoned Europeans where would you recommend to look at retiring?

  8. I’m seriously weighing up my options as financially it looks very good.

I just need to get my house move done and dusted, then I’ll be planning it properly and I’ll probably finish within 12 months.

  14. Step away from this thread: you retired 30 years ago  :noentry:

  15. Food for thought my dear:worried:

  16. Nice Chateau mind

  17. A friend has 'retired' to S.France. Bought a chateau (very large house!) and has spent a year doing it up. Now rents rooms out and B&B, especially bikers. Alas lost his wife of 30 plus years while over there, and its given him something to really concentrate on.

    Place looks beautiful.

  18. For cost of living, Spain and Portugal. Doesnt do it for me though. Im off to France. Bought a house in the Correze department near Dordogne. Heading over in the next few month.
Cost of living is similar to here but property is very cheap, as is the French version of council tax. I did look seriously at Dumfries and Galloway. One of the nicest places in the UK. But, property/location that would get me interested works out too expensive for retirement funds. Water, council tax, property all about 3 times the price of what I have found in Correze. Makes it a no brainer for me.
