  4. Looks like it's the alternator cover that cracked. Loose alternator nut?

  5. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic....

  7. If it didn't seize etc and you shut it off before catastrophe struck, can you not replace broken parts and keep existing motor ?? :upyeah:

  8. That's what I'm wondering.

    Need some expert advice though!

  9. The central "round" fracture looks to be a stress fracture, I would guess that something like the small bearing on the end of the crank or the mains are worn and stressed the Alt. housing which subsequently broke loose then rotated and broke the rest of the cover. A guess is all, not to be taken as a diagnosis.

  10. Shit!!!

Mate, get in touch with @tom.i on here. He has a few 999 engines for sale and if you can strike a deal, I might be able to help you out with transport as I'm constantly working up and down the country.

  11. Might explain the

    Thanks for that Ian.

  12. Had a chat with John today, top bloke!

Bottom line is we get it down to him,
Strip it and assess what's dead and what's not.

Whatever I'm doing, it'll be North of £2k minimum I'd think.

  13. Even if it was only case damage?

  14. good luck, what's the millage?

  15. 14k

  16. Not likely he said, the bearing usually goes as a result of something more sinister.

  17. Oh mate, real sorry to hear that, good luck in whatever you choose to do.

  18. Main bearing failiure resulting in up and down movement of the crank, breaking the casing around the outer bearing.
Just my opinion ,it has been known before.

  19. Could just be the little bearing in the end as Dave suggested.
I'd be pulling the case off and having a good look. Could be fairly cheap and easy fix with new little bearing and case.
