  1. wbp if recommended and cost effective

  2. Waterproof ply board....
Not Chinese and make sure its hardwood.
Its waterproof without anything on it.
It will last longer than you as a roof, if installed how I said.

  3. cheers fella :upyeah:

  4. shopping list to include weather and boil proof hardwood ply

  5. Selco had it on offer in Dec £19 sheet for 1200 x 2400 x 18mm plus vat

  6. I would use 18mm ply for the floor,t&g can split with the weight of a side stand but guess you racer types only use paddock stands, also go for glass double glazed units, you should be looking to pay approx £23 a square meter ask for 4/20/4 units(4mm glass,20mm spacer bar, 4mm glass) when you have formed your openings measure tight rebate and knock off 8mm height and width, when glazing sit the unit on a couple of 5mm packers and seal with a low mod silicone.

  7. He said pumped, concrete pumps cost a fortune to hire. I work for an international civil engineering contractor and even with our buying power we still pay £650 +VAT per day for a 26m pump...

  8. You putting a kitchen in there too Mike ;)

  9. I agree concrete pumps are expensive to hire, but most of us live on farms, detached or semidetached houses, so your typical cement truck can deliver to the point its required.
May be if you have limited access....
    OK point conceded if pumped.

  10. Funnily enough, I'm also thinking of building a garage/workshop/office in the garden... Not to build myself (not if I want it to remain standing), so am starting to investigate options (pre-fabricated or bespoke).

Interested to hear what others have done/are doing.

  11. Yep, I had about 24 meters distance to pump.

  12. We do a lot of work for Norwegian Log Buildings Ltd

That's our air con in the back on the wall (Black box).

Expensive, but good and the customers always seem happy (note we fit after they've had them a while).
    Or if too expensive

Try Dunster House - Log Cabin & Garden Building Specialists

    Don't forget the Air Con.

  13. Yep....either park the cement truck up really high or use a pump.

  15. Thanks, I'll check these out. And yes, I want heating and cooling, and also dehumidifying... It's for the bike and cycles primarily, and a workshop, but also an office/playroom/mancave... Ideally the "room" bit is split from the garage/workshop part...in case the Mrs insists on it being a playroom for our nipper... I don't really want the bike covered in paint, etc. ;-)

  16. If you go 70mm wood log cabin you shouldn't need the de humidifier, mine is currently at 55% naturally which is close to spot on for the bikes. That way the additional cost of running a de humidifier will be off set and pay for itself in only a few thousand years :)

  17. Have you checked out online suppliers of double glaxed units? they may be a lot cheaper than you expect, especially without too many openers?

I'd use 19mm spanfloor rather than T&G too.

  18. Err...ummm.
Please let us consider your electric fire to keep it warm, so you can use it for 200 days a year.
£1 of electric (for Electric fire) = £1 worth of heat @ 16 pence per kW/Hr.

£1 of electric (for Air Sourced Heat pump)
    = +£4 worth of heat @ 16 pence per kW/Hr.

Then there is the 30 days a year when you need AC.....what is you heat going to do then.

Then there is the wet bike....what is that wood going to do with that moisture?

135 days a year you won't need any temperature or moisture conditioning.

    Ok...I'm feeling better now.

  19. Designer Wooden Flooring By Span Floors
Not sure this is going to be as cheap as Hardwood WPB, even at 1" for the floor (£45 per 1.2 x 2.4 sheet)

  20. I hate T&G flooring....but may be it's because I'm always taking it up.
