Funnily enough I saw the website bbb fabrications but no name of Steve Bailey linked to that site, therefore when somebody said he made them I failed dismally to connect a website to a person, that’s because I am as thick as two short planks.
I ordered my case saver from Stephen at BB Fabrications. After two weeks It didn't arrive so I called and was promised that it would be sent straight away. After another two weeks I was told that it had been returned undelivered which is possible but unlikely. I asked for it to be resent signed delivery. It turned up a couple of days later. It was too wide, too long and the wrong shape. Since its a grey rainy day I cut and reshaped the thing myself which wasn't difficult to do. TBF he could have simply sent me the wrong one... Given the delays getting it, the wrong one arriving or the part being made incorrectly, I have to say I wouldn't buy anything of this bloke again. Other experiences may vary! Serves me right for being a lazy barstardo and not making it myself from scratch.
Cant believe it, I have had more important things to worry about over the last week and this post just remembered me i had ordered this, Ive never received it ether and when i do i just hope it doesnt look like the one in your post, Thats atrocious looking tbh, The last one i got from germany was bang on and cheap, Ohh well i will through him an email
When it arrived it looked like the first pic. After "reworking it" with my own fair hands, it became pic 2 (some of the marks are just grease). Its now a lighter race version. LOL.
To be blunt, I would be very surprised if 2mm aluminium plate will save the casing in the event of a chain break - I reckon the chain will bite into the soft ally and rip the tabs off the screws. I spent quite some time working on a 2.5mm stainless steel one, but because the 600 and 750 engine cases are quite different to the 900s which made them more complicated to make; I was still doing it when I sold my 750. The fixing tabs aren't in the same place and there is bugger all clearance between sprocket with chain and the casing. I don't know where it is in my workshop, but it is in there somewhere. I may have a pattern for it somewhere as well. AL
BBB one isnt aluminium is it?? Hope not, My fighter ones SS, Looking at the cuttings above it certainly looks like steel If it is Aluminium it wont be fitted thats for sure
I think its steel. Next week I'm taking it off and making one - using it as a pattern - from Stainless.
As I understand it, the idea is that it provides a smooth path for the chain to go round the sprocket and out, rather than bunching up and causing damage, so needs to be smooth and hard but not necessarily immensely strong
Crazy isn't it that we search for and modify our bikes this way, is it something the manufacturers are missing in their search for perfection, or is it more to do with our tinkering habits ?
Spoke to him a couple days ago and he said He THINKS it was posted last Fri, Ohh well the posts been and still not arrived
That sounds about right, Have had parcels from Germany quicker than Uk, 2 paddock stands from Germany which the post was free and in 2 days
At last its turned up, looks tidy enough but saying that its on the thin side imho, Defo at least 0.5mm thinner than the one ide fitted to the streetfighter, Whether its a straight fit or needs cut/ modded to install ive no idea, Wont get to bike for a while, Defo be making my own from now on,
Stephen seems like a nice guy. My case saver took several calls & five weeks to arrive and was the wrong shape width etc. I told him and he apologised and said he would give me my money back. Then he forgot to send the refund until I called him again - another week later. Oh well no harm done.
