Bloody hell - sounds hard to me? Worse thing is the 5 points? In 1990's I got caught bang to rights on the M40 by plod on a bridge giving my beloved RS500 Cossie its final tonking before delivering it to its new pilot! I won't say how quick but it was more than double the motorway limit plus a lump! I had to attend court as I was warned it might be a custodial sentence so it was a brown trouser day I don't mind telling you. OB were pretty fair to me - on one hand stating that I was the fastest car or bike they had ever clocked on that section of motorway but said apart from the "crazy MPH" I wasn't out of control and in fact must have been paying attention as I was breaking heavily a fair distance from bridge because I had spotted them? Pretty fair of them I thought? Judge obviously thought different - I had a totally clean licence but I got hammered with £1200 fine (big money nearly 25 yrs ago!),all court costs and 9 months immediate ban and having to resit my car and motorcycle tests again!!! On appeal my brief got it down to 6 month ban and no retests as I had not been convicted of dangerous or careless driving. The problem came 6 months later - insurance on anything tasty or exotic was out the question and they told me it was worse than a drink driving conviction
I was once taken out in a colleagues sapphire cosworth. It was chipped to around 330, nothing by today's standards I know. The acceleration blew my tiny mind and we only did about 130 but it was the fastest that I'd travelled at the time.
In the early 90s I went from Colchester to Market Lavington not far from Devizes........on a de-restricted ZZR1100...... ....hit the M4 at approx 3.30pm just at the start of Friday going home rush hour............managed to get through loads of traffic, witha CBR 1000 on my tail..........once we were clear of most vehicles, he blasted past me........ .....WTF, I thought.........and wound it on............went past him like he was standing still............and then I spotted Plod on a bridge and shut off immediately but didn't brake..............CBR 1000 kept going and got pulled up a half mile after the end of the down slip road....... ..........I went by at a very sensible speed (with a grin). Phew!
I bet it was more than that............and the Plod on the bridge probably swore a bit too....... I was just lucky I saw him from quite some distance away........although the CBR1000 was red and my ZZR was black.......maybe Plod concentrated on him (or thought the chase bike wouldn't catch me if I stayed at the same speed).
