Hmmm, no. Mine went together without issue. Firstly I assume that the carrier is the correct one for the 1260 as on the JT website. Important that the cush drive inserts are correctly located. Did you fit a different, fancy, sprocket flange at the same time as that might be the cause of your problem? Check that everything, spacers etc, is in the correct place, the parts diagram can be useful here.

One other thought I didn’t see mentioned is that 14 divides evenly into 42 three times, so the same teeth on the two sprockets are contacting the chain in the same spot over and over every revolution of the rear sprocket. Normally two numbers are chosen that don’t evenly divide, so that the wear is more evenly distributed.

It's normal and sufficient to just change the front sprocket to a 14, or the rear sprocket to a 42, not both at the same time. So 14/40 or 15/42, and that avoids your conundrum.
