Just done a double check and yes i had got the steering damper on the wrong bracket! , and i just lightly loosened all the bolts and tapped the top yoke down to where it should be ,flush with the top of the centre nut ...not sure what i was thinking when setting them up, probably concentrating too much on getting angles right and getting a bit of brain fade...anyway now sorted., and thanks for pointing things out.
