Converting A Euro5 Diesel To Euro6

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by AirCon, Jan 24, 2019.

  1. Anyone on here work in this industry?

  2. Don't know how you'll achieve that TBH. The specific make, class and model will always be at the level that it was certified at. Pretty sure that whatever you do won't change how the authorities regard it if that's your intent?

  3. More than one person has told me that someone makes certified converters (albeit different ones for different vans) and TFL's own site talks of fitting a filter!?!
Our, less than 4 year old (latest spec when purchased) , van has over £20K's worth of customisation, so if I have to spend £3K going from EURO 5 to EURO 6 then I will.
Not to save on the £12.50 a day ULEZ, but to avoid the inevitable ban on EURO 5 inside the North and South Circulars...

There are plenty of companies that fit / convert lorries and buses to meet the new regulations, that's quite a growing market.

  4. Will it matter if your moving to civilisation in the not too distant future?

  5. No, but he's never going to do it :eyes:

  6. I suspect there's a lot more to making a vehicle Euro6 compliant than retro--fitting a particulate filter and catalytic converter from a later vehicle.
I think you might need a whole new engine and exhaust system.

  7. let alone the ad blue shoit..

  8. OK I stand corrected, news to me. Though it looks, from what I've read, to be in the theoretical/experimental stage at the moment.

Retrofitting an AdBlue system sounds like a complex and expensive task.

  9. I'm not disagreeing, it's just annoying that a few people have said they have seen adverts ..... just can't find any.

  10. The additional tax is ok, l'll pass that on to the customer.
It's that eventual ban that's the issue.

  11. obviusly engines are under development all the time including maping
an oil rep told me the main difference euro 5 and 6 is the oil spec.

  12. Cheers Fin :upyeah:

  13. Isn't S-N CIrcular only from 2021? I believe there might be a charge but doubt they will ban it.
Was reading about in the German media, the gov. wanted to force VW, Mercedes,BMW to retro fit, think they all chosed to give big discounts on new cars as would be very expensive to upgrade from euro5 to euro6. It takes much more than just fitting a DPF filter.
Not sure but buses and trucks might have a different system even older trucks have adblue injections.

  14. Would it not be easier just to trade the old van in for a newer one?

  15. I will be using a horse to get to Covent Garden in future.

  16. Yes, for most people and a very expensive option for us.

  17. You're retiring allegedly.........why do you give a fuck? :p

  18. Nothing planned, but it's the way these things go... £100 per day for an older van..... it's why everyone bought new back in 2008...

Low Emission Zone (LEZ) covers most of Greater London and operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
It was introduced in 2008 to encourage the most polluting heavy diesel vehicles driving in the Capital to become cleaner.
The LEZ covers most of Greater London.
All roads within Greater London, those at Heathrow and parts of the M1 and M4 are included.
However, the M25 is not included (even where it passes within the GLA boundary). Look out for signs at the boundary and side of the road to see where it applies.

    And look at the charges,
What will it cost me to enter the London Low Emission Zone?
That depends on what you are driving and where you are.
This table should give a clear indication on how much you are likely to pay.

    Vehicle Weight Daily charge
Larger vans, motorised horseboxes, 4x4 light utility vehicles, pick-ups, other specialist vehicles 1.205 tonnes unladen or more £100
Motor caravans, ambulances 2.5 - 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight £100
Mini-buses (with more than eight passenger seats) 5 tonnes or less gross vehicle weight £100
Lorries, goods vehicles, motor caravans, motorised horseboxes, breakdown and recovery vehicles, snow ploughs, gritters, refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers, concrete mixers, tippers, fire engines, removals lorries, other specialist vehicles More than 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight £200
Buses, coaches (with more than eight passenger seats) More than 5 tonnes gross vehicle weight £200

  19. From 1st March 2018.......

"I'm considering dissolving my LIMITED company, selling up, moving West (Ross on Wye, Hereford area - 25 mile circle) and switching from working every day to just when I want to as a sole trader..........."

At no point have I said I'm ceasing work......
