749 Coolant Leak

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by RickyX, Mar 31, 2019.

  1. I am in the process of prepping my 749R trackbike for the coming season.
I noticed a small puddle of coolant under the bike.
The bike hasn’t been run since last September.
Closer inspection revealed that it appears to be weeping from the water pump housing, around the aft edge where it joins the side casing.

I intend to take it off and re-seal it with 3 Bond.

Anybody else had this happen? Seems weird that it has leaked when it has just been sitting there doing nothing.

  2. Arrow shows the location plus blatant excuse to show my R’s(e)!

  3. You could have least pushed it out the garage and taken the picture Ricky!! is it leaking from the coolant plug on the water pump, perhaps it needs snatching up a tad.

  4. It’s not coming from the drain plug. It’s further aft than that, along the curved rear edge.

  5. A closer picture...…… Please......

Here you go. Coolant is greenish, resting along the curve in the casing.

  7. Took pump cover off and sealed it with new 3 Bond.
Hopefully this will sort it - waiting for sealant to cure before filling again.
