And happens quickly under warranty (not many have) and are replaced. Whereas Ducati like to leave theirs as is, for the 2nyears as many don’t do many miles, then let the customer foot the bill...1098 big ends...1198 gearboxes...panigale headers....list goes on
I think that's an important point . Modern plastics ( polymers ) have had their chemistry tweaked and tailored to give them very specific properties . Unfortunately , resistance to UV is not one of them ..... if anything , it has been sacrificed , so we get a network of microscopic cracks ( reticulation ) being created that then start turning into much bigger visible cracks . Add some hefty mechanical vibrations into the mix ..... ? It still doesn't excuse it though . These bikes aren't exactly cheap ! " Where there's a will there's a way " , but in this case it looks like " the will " is that they look great in the showroom , and hopefully for the length of the warranty period ? From the manufacturer's point-of-view , warranty claims are a very bad thing , but replacement parts and dealer service charges are the goose that lays the golden eggs . Hmm .... all of that might come across as cynical ....
Why doesn’t are ‘darling’ bike media pick up on this and ask a direct question to the manufacturer? Do car dashes crack or top area of dashboards deform & blister in sunlight?
Had this happen on two dash screens. 899 & 1299. Given explanation of sunlight. But not left in sunlight and if it was it would be covered up. Both replaced under warranty by Pro Twins. Service was excellent. Seems quiet a common problem. If Ducati have to keep replacing them then why not build them with Gorilla Glass as on a few touring bikes. Is annoying when we are paying premium for the machines and you get an issue like this.
