Crashed fairing repairable?

  1. You need a special type of glue for ABS and plastics, the Superglue you can get is not the best, and does not do well on items that flex. try this Loctite Epoxy Plastic Bonder from Loctite Adhesives or alternatively use a heat welding system Plastic Welding: How To Instructional Video by Techspan - YouTube, this is what most professionals would use.

It is possible to use a soldering iron to do the repair, but unless you have a scrap piece of ABS as a filler, and also something to practice on I'd give it a miss. One other trick, which I picked up from looking after glider plexiglass canopies, is to stop drill the end of the crack with a small hole, use a 1mm or 2mm bit. This removes the stress from the crack and stops it from growing. Duke

  2. You're quite right, superglue won't effect a suitable repair on its own, its just used in this context to render the fairing a single piece, the actually repair is done with fiber glass.
