Tinnitus here to stay here too I'm afraid. My doc said one ear tinnitus can be more dangerous than both. Mine sounds like it's in the back of my head!
Feel sorry for you LBY and anybody else suffering with it, I'm not to bad with it at the moment, only really noticeable when it's quiet. Still can't make my mind up over custom or soft foam ones though. Used softish foam ones today but after an hour or two became slightly uncomfortable, but not unbearable.
I got some ultimate ear customs and I don't like them at all ( short canals apparently) so they are not that good and blocking out the noise. You can get different density soft plugs that work well. I prefer to use my noise cancelling earbuds with my sena kit , they block out the noise quite nicely and I can still talk/listen to music etc....
