Day Time Mot's

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Exige, Feb 27, 2018.

  1. That would make it illegal and non MOTable (I've just invented a word :) ) At the end of the day it's a race bike, so it is what it is and the law is the law. The minimum I need to do is what it needs as to make it legal with lights would turn it into a road bike again with all the proper homologated equipment.

  17. There's been many, many, many debates about this over the years. Daytime MOT's are perfectly legal, BUT, bear in mind it doesn't make the bike legal to use on the roads. The MOT is only part of it, the "Construction and Use" regs are also applicable. http://www.dft.gov.uk/vca/additiona...icle-type-approval-for-motorcycles/vca039.pdf
A good friend of mine, who at the time was a traffic cop, explained the ins and outs of it all to me many moons ago. Bottom line is, if you get pulled and the police know their stuff (and many do nowadays), they'll wring you dry. Also check with your insurance company. Although you have a MOT, you're bike isn't technically road legal under the C&U regs. The line in there about competition vehicles, which you could argue yours is, will fall down as it's being used on the road and should be taxed....it's not a competition bike.
It's a very cloudy area until it comes to crunch time.....

  18. What i dont understand is why is the motorcycle mot`s so damn expensive,,as i pay £27 to £29 for a van/landrover for the last six years!

  19. Van/LR should be £54.85 and Motorcycle £29.65.... But a garage can charge a £1 if they wanted to...

Cookster is spot on with whats required for a daylight MOT,, other than maybe the reflector.....
