Denzil Down

  1. I hope you get lucky and the bike is capable of economic repair.

Same goes double for you, D the D.

  2. That’s amazing. It looks in better shape than many of the bikes on here.
I would be damned if I would scrap those cans. What damage there is is only underneath and by keeping them you get bragging rights too!

  3. Get the cans back to jhp for a re sleeve.

If you get a 6 figure payout, that will help towards it.

  4. The bike -amazingly- doesn't look too bad so thats encouraging, and you also sound like you're making progress. Double good news day!

  5. The first picture makes it look like as the bike leans left on the stand, the rear wheel is not in the same alingment?

God what on earth happened on the second picture, who suggested those slippers ? :D

  6. That looks a lot less damaged than I’d expected, but make sure everything is checked carefully and thoroughly!
The back wheel, wheel bearings, swingarm, swingarm pivot and engine cases appear to have been the load path, so any or all of those may have been bent, twisted, cracked or just overstressed.
The exhaust cans don’t look bad, but check the link pipes haven’t been pushed forwards too, and that they still clear the suspension links and shock.
No rush though: the important bit for now is getting yourself back into full working order.
    Best wishes!

  7. Hey @Denzil the Ducati, glad you are home and on the mend.

I haven't read all the thread, jus to say it brings back eerie similarities to what happened to me - i was knocked off by one sweet old dear and then run over while in the road by other, crushed against the first one's car. Suffice to say a lot broke and a lot of time was spent horizontally.

From my own experience, after you get summoned to go again to that one last specialist and think bollocks to all this, you have had enough, hang in there and see it through. I was back and forward for 6 years before it was finally resolved (in 2007) but i do have nerve damage and am in daily pain, so much so that i have taken to smoking weed again (after a 20 yr break), as it really is the only thing that touches the sides once the pain kicks in.

You will probably receive a taster offer, and it probably doesn't need saying but don't accept it. Again, hang in there and hold out. You have done nothing wrong and the court is yours, so to speak.

    Wishing you all the best.

    Nick

  8. Agree with this.
I don't want to put a downer on things but after an impact which has pushed the bike 5m I would expect something to have absorbed the impact.
The seat unit does not look level, (bent subframe?).
The fact that bike remained upright has saved a lot more damage.
Denzil, you and I are the same age and similar family situation (Denzilina), and I can't help but keep thinking of myself in your situation when I read the posts on this thread. GWS.

  9. The bike's babysitter said to me after he picked it up that the seat unit was definitely not right, although from what Dad was saying to me in hospital he had visions of it being completely smashed to bits ("I've got a spare one though in the garage...") - it's something! It was apparently still intact enough for the guy at the recovery compound to comment that it was a "really nice bike" :joy:

It is also definitely leaning on the improvised stand and the rear wheel isn't quite the right shape any more. Has since been put on a proper paddock stand now one which fits has been sourced locally but I don't have any pics of it on this.

  10. The slippers wouldn't be allowed at Denzil Towers for a number of reasons, let me tell you...

  11. This could have been a lot, lot worse - for you and the bike.
Motaliner in Maidstone should be able to straighten/fix the wheel, although I think I would definitely replace the wheel bearings and the swinging arm bearings (and maybe the SA pivot shaft) which have probably got flats/indents in them and the rear tyre. GWS.

  12. Glad to hear from you and that you BBC are feeling well enough to start to worry/plan bike repair.
Soft tissue injuries take a bit longer to heal than breaks but don’t despair, it will get better.
    Keep us all informed.

  13. 5m and then 15m is a long way to fly from standstill

  16. GWS Denzil, don't sweat the bike, it will fix up for when you're ready :upyeah:

  17. Just thought I would drop by here to say that today's outlandish jaffa cake flavour was peach and passionfruit :upyeah:

... Also that Denzil is getting on alright. Still working through the pain from soft tissue injuries but got some heat pads which are relieving that at least slightly. Sleeping better (although not quite "well") and walked a short distance outside a couple of days ago (although it was possibly a bit much at the time).

I believe the driver involved has also been charged although will leave him to discuss that as he feels appropriate.

I'm making arrangements now for the 748 to be brought home by my friend's dad. Not like he will be able to do anything with it right now (no bending/twisting/general faffing with bike movements until the surgeon is completely happy with his back) but it will make things simpler down the line to have it back in the garage.
