Do I Need A Ducati Service?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Seech, Feb 9, 2018.

  1. Heh - well i am surprised. Another thing is people getting hung up about belt changes. Apparently theyre usually good for 10k+ Mines got its second set in there (currently at 12k) - i think they went in at 6k so no need to change them yet....

  2. Independents are a lot cheaper and probably take more care servicing your bike. I traded in a 2007 1098s two years ago with 12,000 miles on original belts. I got the same trade in value as i would have done had it been serviced by a main dealer every 2 years. These 2 year belt changes is just scaremongering by ducati, many race teams use same belts for many seasons racing without changing them

  3. I`m not sure about race teams as I dont know any but on my bikes I`m happy to keep belts 4 years on air cooled 2 valve engines and 3 years on water cooled 4 valve.

  5. Since Nelly is talking less than half the original quote, I would take it to Cornerspeed. Awards for being the best Ducati service centre says you would have the best of both worlds in terms of history and price if you took it there. I guarantee that the bike will run better afterwards too.

  6. I have openly stated on here I would keep them for 3 years as mine are low mileage use, as has Chris Kelly too - neither of us are Ducati Marketing / Financial Services but Ducati Enthusiasts :innocent: and CCW belts are higher spec too - but 2 years is the official line which marries the OEM, and ours cost a lot less on some models so no reason not to change regularly if your use is higher or heavy o_O:upyeah: so there :yum

  7. I'd just like to statehouse honour that j have a set of exiges belts in my spares drawer ready for when the time comes...

  9. As Gimlet said, if something big fails, out of warranty (which let’s face it, isn’t exactly unheard of with Ducati), you will get a much better likelihood of Ducati helping out with free parts etc if you’ve got a full Main dealer history. I speak from experience here with two major electronics failures, out of warranty, that I only paid the labour on. I think Ducati ended up replacing ALL the ECUs AND the electronic Ohlins rear shock. I can’t imagine how much that would have cost me had I not had a full main dealer service history.

  10. Can’t argue with that! It’s certainly beneficial to build a good relationship with your chosen dealer.
The original question was if a full main dealer history increases the resale value though. Judging from what you’d assume is a sample of more the discerning Ducati enthusiasts around, the answer seems to be a resounding no...

BUT paying a main dealer to service it may benefit the current owner much more than the next.

  11. I see the warranty claim out of warranty comment but didn't the 1198s cease production in 2011? if so then even the last one would be nearly 7 years old? are there many warranty claims that far out of warranty?

  12. If you’ve no warranty to worry about find yourself a well known Ducati Specialist. That’s what I’ll be doing anyway. Lucky enough to have one here who was trained in the factory in Italy and also won several awards for his spanner work

  13. Thanks for all the replies. I've ended up booking it in with Cornerspeed (thanks Duke63). He's priced about half way between Ducati John and Ducati Manchester plus he's an official service centre. Good reviews so I'm happy to let him crack on.

    Thanks again

  14. Exactly the right thing to do :)

FWIW independent doesn’t mean a lot cheaper either. Winter deals help, and if warranty is t an issue take advantage and use the workshops when they are traditionally quieter.
