Do I Need To Re-map Etc ???

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Diver, Feb 8, 2018.

  1. the pop and bang I don't mind too much but I was irritated by the engine management light, as it would seem to a third party (if you were selling it for example) that the engine had an issue but I'm happy that is now dealt with

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  2. Regarding burning valves, running weak etc, provided you leave the lambda sensors in and operational you will not damage the engine, same goes for fitting an aftermarket air filter.

  3. Text him....always replies to texts...

  4. hey ho, gone elsewhere....

  5. Just to put my 2 cents in.....definitely Get it mapped. Go and see chris. The thing your missing is the whole package. The mapping. Additional 500rpm on the redline, throttle bodies balanced. There's a few other things he does too..reduced engine braking is one of them. It'll feel like riding a new bike. If your serious about going to see Chris I only live about 20mins away so look me up first if you want (its out in the sticks). I've had 3 hypers and all have been done there....reviewers complain about "the choppy ducati throttle at low speed".....gone with a remap. I can crawl through heavy traffic .at walking pace on my supposedly lumpy, choppy 1100evo sp...

My mate had his scrambler done last year (after I pressured him into it) after he got it done said it was the best single upgrade apart from the tailpipe...for the noise.

  6. Does he work on all brands, not just Ducati's?

  7. What happens if the main dealer plugs in at a later date, is that remap safeguarded?

  8. My 1098 SF is smoother now after tuning with a CJS remap than it was stock. And that's with substantially increased compression, sharper cam timing and a lightened flywheel. Its all down to the ignition mapping. (Its needs a better clutch slave though. The effortless two finger clutches on my KTMs have made a pussy of me).
@Diver if you can't get hold of Chris or he's booked up, which he can be heading into spring, you could try Mark Brewin at BSD Performance at Peterborough. He's not a specialist Ducati workshop but he's mapped plenty of them and built and prepped lots of race bikes.

  9. Well, while ive not sent mine to a main dealer - you tell them not to. Plus Chris unplugs the lambda sensors also. If the sensors are plugged back in they try to "correct" the mapping. Mine are unplugged and the sockets taped up. I think if any dealer sees that theyll know not to do any ecu updates.

That really goes across the board. I had our SMAX mapped - it went in last year to a ford dealership for a full service. I told them it had been mapped and they said it was fine. Ironically it had an MOT done also - i did ask about the emissions measured. They said it was running well within tolerance. Probably the best 300 quid i spent on it. Went from 180 to 210 brake and the torque curve is massive in 2nd...wife loves it...

Going back to the bikes....its really IMO the "driveability" thats what makes the difference....the whole suite of updates to the ecu - all of them complete the package....you buy the bike cos you love it....you get it mapped...its like the icing on the cake...

  10. If youre talking about CJS yes. Hes done my z1000 too.....in fact, i think at the time i was the first one worldwide to get an ecu flash (at that point it wasnt documented anywhere plus asking on forums the general consensus was it wasnt doable, at that time). I took it in, Chris got a dump of the ecu and gave it to his software guy i believe. I had to wait about six months or so then took it in. The difference was massive. The list of ecu tweeks were...

    1. Fuel mapping.
    2. Flapper valve delete.
    3. Reduced engine braking.
    4. Primary injector cut in time changed from 7k to 3k before the secondary injectors cut in.
    5. 500rpm added to the top end as it was still making power at the redline.

The base reading there is with the full system and air filter already on so, stock you could probably knock a bit of the initial run.

And there it is getting caned...
