Drugs........

  1. Tramadol is fucking nasty shit, screws your head right up, and not in a nice way.

  2. Yeah, it's not especially pleasant, it makes me feel like I've been hit across the head - cant focus, can't stay awake (oddly, can't sleep either) but it does get the job done in terms of pain.

Oddly it doesn't touch a headache though..

  3. I'm not that extreme

  4. Dementia !

  5. Given that the OP mentioned that he works in drug development (?) in another post maybe we are a bit wide of the mark mentioning our own illegal activities in the past ?

  6. re the 60s - when I was at college (not then), Professor Kevin Sharpe (RIP :( ) came to give a talk on his latest work on gthe court of Charles I. The then sat in formal hall with us undergrads (not on the high table), and mortally embarrassed the keeno post-grade by opening the conversation with "so what's the drugs scene like these days? in my day this college was the acid capital of the university..." (and it's gone academically downhill from there...).

The only drug that scared me (not that I've taken a lot) was Solpadeine. Had bad toothache, paracetemol etc wasn't even touching it. Took Solpadeine. Instant pain gone. I suddenly understood how people can get addicted to pain killers.

  7. \\

You're buying it from the wrong supplier then!

  8. A can of Monster will mess me up for a good six hours. Heart palpitations, the shakes, restlessness, constant urination, excessive talking. Then headaches, stomach cramps and nausea on the come down. They sell that stuff to kids. And it doesn't even taste nice.

  10. I don't :) I just like the brand because I like racers that are sponsored by it. I hate the actual taste and experience of the stuff.

  11. I was paying £750 a month for Interferon, all down to NICE rationing

  12. You want to have a good night's sleep.............. full strength green Night Nurse.................
You want all pain to go away..... 5mg Diazapam and 2 Kapake (I have an issue with my neck and it goes into terrible spasm 2 or 3 times a year). Don't expect to go into work though..............
Tramadol..... yes, can upset your stomach but hard to beat.............
As for the original question of this thread, I work in a pharma company in an engineering capacity but I am totally versed in costs. The actual drug itself costs between 10p and £100 per dose to produce dependent on the active content, but normally in the region of less than £!. What you are paying for is not the actual blister pack, but the wages of 20 chemists, all the lab equipment, all the failed trials, the astronomical cost of the raw materials in development, for 3 to 5 years in development, 2 years in clinical trial and 1 year in MHRA and FDA approval involving another 3 teams of people in the region of about 10 in number. this costs in the region of £20M-30M. Then an actual production line runs on a machine that costs 1/2 a million to buy that makes and packs the product, and requires a team of 4-5 people on 3 shifts, 24 hours a day just to make it. Either side are the team who make the raw drug and the cutting compound, stores people, blenders, fork lift drivers, packers,
despatchers ................ that is what you are paying for, this investment has to be re-couped, and exactly the same for cars and bikes. I do not condone the cost of drugs and some may question the amount of profit big companies make, but this is put back into the next project and preserves the jobs of the workforce.

  14. and noel with his spanners :upyeah:

  15. Kapake is a painkiller made by the company I work for, comes in 2 strengths, 15/500 or 30/500. Translated, this means the mg content of codine and paracetamol per tablet, obviously the higher the numbers the more potent the tablet. Kapake comes in tablet or capsule form. Kapake 30/500 has 30mg of codine and 500mg of paracetamol, this combo is also known as co-codamol and can be got as a "generic" medicine with no specific brand name, but, at this strength is POM only (Prescription Only Medicine).
2 of these and a 5mg Diazapam and you are spaced for at least an hour. I do not take these recreationally, only when the nerves in my neck screw up and send the surrounding muscles into spasm.
Tramadol is an alternative to co-codamol but has a bit more "engineering" involved but has the downside of it is side effects can be a bit shit........... not for everyone.

  16. Noel IS a feckin spanner................

  17. Thanks :) oh 30 / 500 cocodomol

:( I have a very high tolerance of it .
Just got of it after taking it for back pain for years .
    Was like sweets..

I did a month cold turkey and felt like death .
Il use it worst case now.

I now only take it when desperate last thing at night .

I get on well with morphine no side effects .
But they won't be giving me anymore as it's addictive .
It's the one drug that works for me .
Having Fibro as well every day hurts but it won't kill you so you make the most of stuff .

I can see why !!! Chills me out :)
