  1. Guess I know what I will do next week. Did not however check prices on any of the bits. Bit of research ahead.

  2. Well I class mine as Mint ! I've seen a lot rougher 1098
so I'll wait to somebody gives me what it's worth !!!
    With t

  3. No offence meant, people will pay what they consider right. I paid over the odds for my race bike because the guy seemed to know his stuff; slightly less kit and more money but was std, he loved and lived these bikes for years and likely give me no issues (fingers crossed)

bit after seeing Lucas above thiught I'd check ebay..there are some dreamers on there! Lol

  4. 996 reduced to £4100 firm
it now has the standard footrests & steering damper fitted.
Apparently if you hpi it, it says it yellow !!! I can assure you its never been anything but red ! Ive got the original blue log book to proof it. (a typo i guess grrrr)

no more timewasters please. Its a very nice bike with nothing wrong with it, just needs to be viewed i dont consider 16000 miles in 13 years to be high ! Do you ????

  5. I had this problem a few years back when i went back to the same garage to upgrade to the latest model, my log book stated green and mine was blue, the Vin was wrong also the reg number didnt match either, this caused a problem until they realised the the wrong number plates had been fitted by them as my reg number was on the green car.

  6. I had a y plate 996s with 24k on, always looked after by jhp, which said it was perfect no faults, due to it being used

ild buy a ducati with that mileage with out any problems,

hold out for your price, there's a lot of crap about, looks a beauty of a bike

  7. few month ago i've picked up 02 Yellow 996 , mint, not a single mod (except carbon termi's) 6k miles from new, 1 owner from new for lower price than both bikes mentioned in this thread.IMO mods are only reducing the value of the decent classic moto,so i am not surprised that you guys finding it hard to move your bikes. mine is sitting in my garage now and i am just knocking one out every time i look at it. only done 100 miles since i've picked it up as i am running around on my pani as a main commuter.

  8. Well I would be suspicious as to why a bike only done about 500 miles a year.....

    How much did you pay?

  9. Why?

  10. Price wise to know what is on the table.

With mileage well unless owner has garage bigger then my home ever will be (why is he selling then a future classic) I would be asking why bike was not used? Maybe it is just me and I am an odd bread of Ducati owner but I actually buy the bike to use it not stear at it.
Based on that if bike was not used it means either owner could not afford to maintain (my situation now hence selling). As a result what state the engine is in (with 6k not that big of a problem). Maybe bike was tracked so no speedo on, then rebuild to look nice hence low mileage. Maybe it was constantly braking down or maybe he had a genuine reason to not use it. If so how was it stored as long standing in moisture any seals would be of concern to me.

Even if you have 2 or 3 bikes and do not commute you will do on average about 1k miles a year just over weekends.

  11. Robarano, my 996s 2001 has done 8300 ish and I have known its heritage from the day it left the dealers, the mileage may be lowish, but its probably had more money thrown at in servicing than more higher mileage bikes, its just a Sunday bike, but run every other weekend, up and down the track behind my house so uses all mechanicals,

  12. I'm selling a 1098s which I think is a future classic, there is no story behind it, I just don't use it. So best to sell it, but I'm not bothered if I keep it.

Me too, but I'm a busy man and it has to be work and weather permitting.

All of my bikes have a full Ducati dealer service history, no expense spared.

Again, Nope. All of my bikes have been a model of reliability and stored in a heated garage when not used.

    Again, no.
Desmosedici (2010) 2400 miles (600 miles per summer),
    1098s (2007) 2500 miles (350 miles per summer),
    Streetfighter S (2013) 900 miles (900 miles per summer),
My Vespa is my commuter (2011) (6500 miles)

Again, Nope. None of them have been near a track.

  13. bikes are normally a second form of transport, my bikes do the lesser mileage, what with the van, car and 3 bikes my total mileage a year is only about 15-20,000 and I often use the Big red taxi, if popping into town,

my 996s spent most of its early years on track, I cant see why so many people frown at this, seeing as until I had it, it had never seen a pothole, speedramp, or had been stuck in traffic giving the clutch and cooling system a workout.

  14. I am sorry, no pun intended, but for me you are a perfect example of person that buys a bike to have not to use with exception of Vespa.
None of your bikes can be used as perfect example of reliability as at maximum 900 miles a year if something would brake down I would be moaning and not even think calling them reliable. For me reliable bike is bike that does service mileage (or close to it) between services with zero or maybe few small issues (dead battery, blown fuse, air in clutch). Try using one of those bikes in various conditions for longer period and do considerable mileage (minimum 500 a month for 12 months) and if they do not brake down = reliable.

Even when I used my scooter to work I would still take one of the fun bikes to work minimum one time a week (usually sunday shifts as so much fun on london empty roads). Purely because I enjoy riding and going to work is booring on scooter, bullet in head in car yet oh so practicle in both cases :)

Even when I did not commute to work last year at all (20 min walk) I did 5000 miles in a year between two bikes. Now that I commute again just work will be about 7k. I have already done 500 miles in a month none commute on 996, just for fun.

If I did not know you I would not even look at your bike as my math is if less then 1k miles a year I do not buy unless price is so low I could rebuild an engine for difference.

  15. Well track bike will have its down sides just as road bike but I do not complaint about buying a x track bike. I do complain if it is clear speedo was off and X person would try to sell as low mileage. If bike was tracked but not crashed it will look nicer then bike used on road. If I was told it only done 10k, 14k, 16k miles in 14 years as it was only for track use I would get it there and then as guy was honest. If he tells me bike has done 6k miles in 14y, not much track then you look at bike and it has all signs of tracked bike what else is he hidding? Sme if bike is 6k and no reasonable explanation. Mind you easonable to me and I do not get I have a bike but no time to ride it. You love bikes or you do not.

  16. Well all of that was nonsense, but this gem was the part that stood out. So, let me get this straight..........I have a mint 1098s for sale with 2500 miles on it. Full service history, ridden a few times a year. Now to you this bike is wort significantly less than a bike with 20,000 miles on it that has been used in all weathers. You feel that upon the purchase of my bike you would have to give it a full engine rebuild?

And as for me being the type of person that buys a bike just to have it, you don't know me, but..............You seem to have a weird kind of inverse snobbery going on, that anybody who has (for whatever reason) a lower than average milage bike, has an inferior machine.

  17. There is some rubbish on here. Its done 8k so budget a total rebuild? Says the guy trying to see a high mileage bikes for low mileage money...condition and service history, plus of its been owned a while then an enthusiast to what they have owned is most important imho. The miles come after that, and you pay what you believe its worth

  18. There are certain people I would never by a bike off due to their mechanical ineptitude. Some people dont do many miles because they have a car, kids, work, etc (eg a life) outside of plonking miles on a bike. I know a fair few people with low mileage Ducati's, they are nice bikes. I keep thinking of buying a road bike - Id never use it though.

  19. get a Desmo then Cranker, so I can have a go ;)

  20. So you base your assumption that low mileage bikes are good purely because they are low mileage. I look at it from the other end as it is so low mileage it means any potential issue, granted they might never happen, did not have time to come out yet.
Just like brand new bike (1st year 1098, 1st year multi, 1st year pani) just more focused on bad run in, crazy riding, Friday engine, bad luck and so on.

For me a bike that was used on regular basis and done reasonable mileage, looking still clean and tidy suggests bike was hassle free for the owner which is what I want.

Some of the low mileage is crazy and explanation like may have a car is not valid. 500 miles a year.

I do about that walking to shops and back every year!!
A trip to Brighton and back is 150 miles. Sorry but a day out will easy see 100 miles so you go out 5 times a year and tell me buy a bike for riding. Nope does not compute.

    Each has their own opinion.

However each time I go on ebay and other places I do not see 996 being on sale for much less then 5k with mileage of around 8k. If less mileage they go up in price like hell so it seems 4k for bike with mods is priced right TBH. Oh well if it does not sell it does not sell simple.
