I still work weekends, but not EVERY weekend. Saturday and Sunday are just part of my working week, so no overtime rate, just another workday with week days off instead
Well, I get paid overtime for weekends otherwise I would do them. if you work Saturday and Sunday but only get 2 days off in return that’s a rip off. Saturday is time and a half, Sunday is double time so I’d expect at least 3 days off in return.
None taken. Sadly in my current line of work there’s no choice. I spent 5 months out of work last year and it was REALLY hard financially. To have this job in a pretty grim market leaves my options limited.
I’m shocked some think it’s unusual. I’ve never had a job where I was paid overtime or earnt time off in lieu. When you are salaried in any sort of manufacturing environment you put the hours in required to do the job, that’s just how it is.
Same for me in a lifetime of various engineering & design jobs. However, I'd say that it's not right that we are/were denied time off in lieu when working (a lot of) unscheduled hours. I would have thought a lot better of my various employers had they been just a little bit more generous & caring!
When I had my design company I didn’t pay overtime but 95% of the time it wasn’t required either. Occasionally someone would need to stay late or work on a weekend but I’d give them time off if it was significant. I’d also be relaxed about them having time off for appointments at dentists or doctors etc. I just treated them like grown ups and hopefully they didn’t take the piss
Back to the dealership thing... Something that was said in an excellent example fault-finding video about my car is that a main dealer is (or should be) the experts; they have all the tools, diagnostic equipment, access to parts, experience, etc. A local garage - bike or car - will be working on many different makes, so they're not going to be anything like an expert unless they work on, say, one make or even better - one model (yes, extremely rare). At the dealer you should be confident that they've seen your problem before and know how to fix it, and if not, should want to find out the issues for then and the future. Now I realise that this sounds rather idealistic however this is why I don't go to my local dealer, as they're clearly not experts, yet they're only dealing with ONE make! From most of the posts on this forum (yes, there are some great exeptions) it seems that all of us would prefer to use someone like Louigi Moto, Cornerspeed and so on as they care /endrant
