  1. This is my Monster M400 grey import.

He's not the most bling or expensive bike I know but he is special.

When I brought him it was clear he had been down the road and was in a pretty sorry state.
nice tank paint ( bike was yellow ) but that's were it stopped.

    basics
new tank to replace heavily filled one.
replaced forks as seals kept leaking on original ones with bike .
wheels replaced as ones on bikes damaged and a real mess.
engine casings dented through accident , replaced.
reg rec fried so extensive acid damage to engine and casings.

frame bent due to accident also acid damage all down frame .
Frame was re jigged straightened out.
Reg rec replaced gel battery installed to lessen any damage should reg rec go again!
carbs sorted as running like a bag of nails

bike was stripped back to a pile on floor and frame swing arm and hoop an wheels powder coated as close to a Ducati monster yellow scheme I loved.
It was then given a bit of white metal flake with is subtle but effective.
Engine was sprayed silver and the new casings satin black powder coat along with hangers.
    .
Tank and Mudguard painted satin black .
sounds easy !! One sprayer tried 3 times and with the last try had loaded so much paint on it went soft transporting it home it got dinged.

Then found Dave at Tri Colour who loves Ducati's and he did it and I went out and it was just a little bit too Matt for me so bless him he worked on the finish until it was exactly the right tone I wanted.
Who said satin black was easy!!

Seat sculpted out due to my shortness but need a new seat as side cut outs on base don't work or look right.
Hel brake lines front and back .
    SES bungs fitted.
Did have rear sets but due to back injury crippled me so had to go back to standard .

Bike still has an electrical blip to sort.
    suspension needs total modification

old dented down road exhausts replaced with Termis then these carbon exhausts ( I did not sticker them ! )
Rack is there I know not pretty but again he is a work horse when used I load him up for trips away and also now no more stupid heavy rucksack.
proper Ducati headlight fairing on to stop me getting blown about.
3D stupidly expensive tank decals cost nearly as much as the tank !!!!
    But I love them.

I loved the millennium yellow and black monster Dark 600 edition as would have brought one but have had a thing for 400 grey imports
    for years.
So kept my eyes peeled for a 400 Monster.
A friend helped me get this as came up at a bad time as usual and I then sold 2 of my bikes to pay for it and fund getting it roadworthy.

For 2 years I brought each part bit by bit and saved to get bits done.
It still has a couple of issues like horrific suspension to sort.
    Fork upgrade desperately needed.

I was advised to scrap it as was in a bad way and as said accident damaged to which was not known when it was brought.
But they are pretty rare in the UK and I think to a point everything can be rescued.

my intention is to finish getting it to be a nice bike to ride.
its not bling it's not radical

It was a rescue mission :)
I have ridden it quite a bit now .
But the suspension is crippling me so that's the next big thing!

Sorry can't see very well today and typing on a phone :)

  2. OK, I'll bite....

    My 1989 851 Corse replica

Frame: Original 1989 851, powdercoated. 851SP alloy rear subframe

Engine: 916cc from an ST4, standard apart from lightwight clutch basket and pressure plate, painted to look a bit more 90'S

Front End: Later 851/888/900SS yokes (original bike had Marzocchi M1Rs), bottom yoke shimmed down and top yoke machined out to 51mm to take Ohlins FG9051 forks, 851 corse clipons, 916 front wheel (because it looks a bit more like the Marchesini mag that the racebikes had) with custom axle and spacers to make it all fit, repro carbon mudguard. Brembo billet calipers

Rear End: Original swingarm and (sexy) adjustable shock linkage, Ohlins shock, 900SSie wheel (to match the front), carbon hugger and under swingarm hugger, corse carbon chain adjuster plates, underslung rear caliper with corse carbon tie-rod

Induction: Corse carbon intake system and airbox, S4 throttle bodies with pod air filters

Exhaust: 50mm spaghetti headers and carbon cans, carbon hangers

Bodywork: Nose and sides are repro from QB Carbon, genuine Ducati Corse carbon tank with quick-release fittings, tail is genuine Ducati carbon, genuine corse seat pads (took 3 years to find those!) carbon upper bodywork mounts, paint by Darren Flynn (DF Bike Paint in Bournemouth)

Controls: Corse alloy dash with ST4 rev-counter and 851 temp-gauge, custom made (by me) loom with 16M ECU and all relays, fuses etc... mounted in the nose to keep the undertail clean like the corse bikes were, repro corse alloy battery tray, Brembo master cylinders from an Aprilia, 'Map Select' button is actually the horn, genuine corse alloy rearsets

  3. Restoration - Ducati 1977 900SS

    image.jpg image.jpg

Started restoration in January 2013 with a life long friend.
The first picture was stored in my garage in 101 boxes (because we had to build it up to make sure we had most of the parts) for 17 years waiting to start restoration when I retired.
After many frustrating times obtaining original Ducati parts (from UK, USA, Australia, Holland, Germany and Italy) we finally completed the bike December 2013 a total of 12 months.
There are no modifications to the bike as we have tried to restore as near as possible to the original 1977 bike.

  4. Tasty cheapskate mods on an almost bog-stock black 999 which I have owned from new. Now in excess of 20'000 miles!!!

    Extensive modifications include:

Go-faster Ducati Performance sticker (because the slab side looks uninspiring)
Carbon rear hugger (to protect the shock)
Carbon cam belt cover (the one you can see)
    Carbon exhaust heat shield
    Carbon chain guard
Black Pazzo levers (because the standard ones aren't) with nifty blue adjusters (because the fork adjusters are blue)
Blue rim tape (keeping the tasty blue bits theme)
Billet reservoir covers (because the paint on the originals peels)
Black screen (maintaining the black theme)
Black anodised foot pegs and hangers (because they should have been in the first place)

Note: bog-stock exhaust because it's black already, makes enough noise, and I can't be bothered with the police and MOT hassle here.

  5. photo (3).jpg photo (2).jpg

My namesake which I bought 10 years ago already streetfightered but half done(inc mint original fairing that I sold).
I do a bit to it each year. Its about how I want it now apart from a chainguard.
Over the years I've added a 1000SS swingarm and ohlins shock that I bought a crashed bike to get.
Corbin seat when the dollar exchange was low.
ST4s fork legs+carby top yoke to fit risers and drag bars to.
    High level cans+DP rear footrests.
ST4s curved oil cooler. K+N and PC111. Cut down Monster front guard.
This year I got MHe DP belt covers that I've lusted over for years and DP rearsets to match the pillion set.

  7. My 2000 748S. Just been rebuilt after I was hit by a car on it last year. Bike was written off and bought back for 800 quid, and has been lovingly rebuilt by me as and when time allowed. Gone for the standard look, but with race termis and open clutch. Roll on summer!
