  1. Glenn, what does your training say? 'If you don't understand it, shoot it'????

  2. Your right Jerry, either shoot it punch it or shout very loudly at it.

  3.

  5. Pen and paper? What's this, some kind of new technology? - I'm still using quill and parchment. (Bloody modern stuff, I've only just replaced my wax cylinders with 78's).

  6. yup you are right, its a re-direct from ducatisti to coventry (code held on the ducastiti server)...Dan has kept the name pointing to his own server.

this of course means that Dan still has a server running and maybe still has the databases still behind it...

  7. For what it's worth, my 2d.

I enjoyed contributing to Ducatisti, although I doubt I ever posted much that would have been of any lasting use to anyone. I was surprised to find the site ending up at Ducati Coventry with no explanation. I think the biggest loss has been that a lot of members still don't know that people have reconvened here. If Ruffs hadn't gone out of his way to tell me, I'd be none the wiser. And I think that's a bit sad. It would have been laughably simple to make the old site point to this one, or for Ducati Coventry to stick a link on their homepage to this one.

I bear no ill-will to Dan at all (don't even know him) but I'm am surprised that the old site just disappeared in a puff of cyber smoke when the torch could have been officially handed over. As site closures go, it was about as poorly managed as it could be. There was a vast amount of useful data on the old site which has apparently been lost to posterity. Sad and mystifying and I can understand for some, galling.

  8. I've seen no comments from anyone that's a friend of/knows Dan personally........can't someone put the case to him for putting up a closed/locked down version of the Ducatisti forum for a week or two at least so we can search out and retrieve whatever info we're after? Please
(and if he's unwilling, pass on his explanation for not doing so)

  9. Not sure what date it is from but here is an archive of Ducatisti at some point; Ducatisti Forum there will surely be info on there that some will want.:upyeah:

  10. Well done Duke. Archive seems to be around Dec 2010. Some useful stuff on there. :)

  11. You might get lucky but sadly hitting most forum topic links results in Wayback Machine doesn't have that page archived. ...........and for us MTS1200 owners most of the interesting stuff was posted after Dec2010

....back to someone approaching Dan with cap in hand :D

  12. I just joined this forum! wondering where the old Ducatisti one went!... can recognise a few names such as 998gsb; been a while since I had my 748.

Just want to say that I agree that a forum is about the people, if those people came across to here then I am sure it will be a great community to be part of, and will hopefully have lots of positive tails to tell of my 848 Evo when I get it (fingers crossed!)

  13. i loved Ducatisti..great site..there was a wealth of info and some great banter by and large..As anth said, the value is created by the members..no contributions, no site.
i also agree with pretty much everyone else's sentiments...i never met Dan so am not at liberty to comment on him personally, but i never had issue with him on the site..it had a great sense of community, courtesy of us, and the generally good way the forum was moderated.
Yes it was his to sell..i dont have a problem with that..but long term contributors and donators were left out to dry, which was not very nice...i think we all felt a little let down...but hey, its only a forum...Its up to us to make THIS forum the best Ducati site available.
I would like to see some changes to this site..ie bike specific sub forum catagories instead of simply 'superbike', but these are minor issues, and perhaps with a 'competing' site, it may help to develop this one.
One thing..JHP are a business and so the atmosphere of the forum may be very different..perhaps heavily moderated, lots of advertising and essentially a marketing extension of the business..ie: gentle suggestions that a certain part, or service will rectify an issue instead of a DIY fix etc...
i certainly dont want the two sites to be set into competing and opposing camps..cant be arsed with that...THAT will be this kiss of death for both sites imho...well, i certainly wont be par taking thats for sure, IF that begins to happen.

  14. I know Dan. He didn't sell the site. He closed access to it and redirected www.ducatisti.co.uk to point at JHP.

Last time I looked even that had stopped working so it simply returned a 'page not found' error.
