  1. Yip, can't grumble :)

  2. 851 Strada in Scunthorpe, been and had a look tonight. If anyone is thinking of it I'm happy to offer an opinion :)

  3. Was that bike in Sussex?

  4. No, at a dealer North of York / Richmond if I remember correctly - it was back on EBay the same day for £12k from a dealer in West Yorkshire.

  5. How much is it?

  6. £5795

  7. We got down to a lower price, but I've decided not to take it further. It is a sound bike, but would take a few hundred to get it up to standard. Could still be a cheap bike at the end of it but I've got enough on my plate really right now without taking on a semi-project. He was willing to MOT it though.

  8. looks all there apart the original silencers???? a good price for someone:upyeah:

  9. If you want a good useable 851 you could do worse. There are a couple of things I'd need to sort if I bought it, worst of which would be a spattering of anodised fasteners, LH fork leg upper has some damage, faded needles (especially temp) and some marks on bodywork inc. micro blistering on tank (alloy tank). It's far from a minger but wouldn't call it a minter either. It fired right up and sounded good. Seller said it's due valve clearances but he's done his own belts and put a new radiator on it.

I hesitate to use the word "patina" as that sounds a bit contrived, but it's probably the right one. It looks like what it is, and what it should be.

  10. so its all about the price you pay on the day.its a buyers market say if you got it for 5k and you spent a grand on it then that would be under the market value and worth doing now i guess?

  11. If he'd have gone to £5k I'd have had it. Be nicer if someone who wanted an 851 got it rather than someone just seeing £££ signs, IMO. It's got a few miles on, it's not a precious model and if kept maintained there's no reason why its fine handling and grunty motor shouldn't bring someone a lot of pleasure. :)

Too much is said about money, I know they can be sound investments but the pleasure is in the riding. Speculators deprive enthusiasts of opportunities, sadly.

  12. No i with you all the way on the model but also its about whats in the back pocket at the end of the day and that suits the buyer and seller:upyeah:

  13. Very local to me and if I'm not mistaken the same fella had his yellow 748?? advertised thats in the background of one of the sale pics up for sale last summer...

  16. Don't understand...

  17. Having never been to either before, my friend and I went to Ducati Peterborough and also Specialist Bikes of Sheffield today.

I’m disappointed/ cross/ confused to report that A) the V4S at Ducati looks a bit cheap but is somehow simultaneously expensive, and also flimsy but is somehow simultaneously bulky in the flesh and 2) SBoS is- whilst undeniably expensive- really rather brilliant.

This is very frustrating to me as I was determined to love the first but hate the second (on general principal alone as robbery without a mask seems a little lazy to me), but I’m genuinely pleasantly surprised to find that I’m left feeling that whilst SBoS are massively, massively expensive, they still seem much better value when compared to the thick veneer of cheapness liberally smeared all over the V4s.

Likewise, all the SBoS stock looked immaculate (as well it might be for their massive mark up), the environment was really welcoming (see above), and- unlike Ducati Pboro- we weren’t jumped all over to try and achieve a sale the second we walked in the door. I’m absolutely not saying their prices seem more agreeable after having visited or that Pboro Ducati was bad per se, but the ‘buying experience’ at SBoS seemed- to my mind- maybe worth a few extra quid.

Maybe I’m just of an age now where I’d rather pay a bit more to not be glad handed by someone who is a salesman first, and possibly a person who likes bikes a bit eighth or ninth. Or maybe I just got over excited by all the shiny things.

That said, I didn’t buy anything, of course. Was nice looking though.

Ps if I had a deposit down on a V4s I think I’d be a bit fed up. The pegs, trim plastics etc on it looked incredibly cheap, which would be fine on a cheap bike, but this is 24k. I know things have moved on a bit, but 24k is still a LOT for a motorbike. It should definitely look more special than that, I reckon.
