bollox. :smile: as a kid every day till i was 20 didn't bother with a car license. got proper winters 20odd years ago in paisly, bit of off roading theses days from November till march
If you haven't spent a winter in Helmand Province with no opportunity to warm up for 3 months, living in an open compound, sleeping in a sleeping bag, on a cot bed wrapped in polythene sheet, washing with water that freezes when you pour it out if the bottle; you haven't been cold. That deep cold that sucks the morale out of your soul, that never, ever goes away and stretches the seconds on stag duty in to weeks and months in the middle of the night. One of the luxuries of Western European life is hot water and central heating. I will not be convinced that being cold is manly, nor that it is something to be relished. I promised myself I would never be so cold again through choice and I bloody won't be if I dont have to. Fuck the cold.
See, I can be hot all day long. If it's hot you can find shade and stop working and you'll cool off. If it's cold and you stop working you just die.
That's the kind of weather when your coffee is your best friend, but it gets cold by the time you walk out to see your real mates
? Plenty of good riding days during winter. As long as it isnt pissing it down or icy or the gritting has been done, then its fine. I dont ride in the rain because i dont enjoy it. I dont ride when its icy for safety. I dont ride when its been gritted as that dissolves ducati's. But that still leaves a great many days during winter for riding.
Poitou charentes. I have no idea where it actually is, but they've bought several acres, several buildings, a barn and a house for around 70k Euro.
Went through there last week on the way home from Spain, has a Cathedral in the centre (Big tall bastard) Give's you somewhere to ride too and your wife can fly there Hope they have a great time there. I do need to learn French some day :Bookworm:
It's a project on the scale of a Grand Designs episode. But we will inherit it when they die so just a waiting game for me
