Extended Warranty

  1. Sorry to hear about your mum, condolences. Had the same a couple of years ago, a tough time. Your week certainly went from bad to worse. Your bike now probably knocked down the priority list :(

  2. Yes....

Sorted everything today for the funeral, banks, etc. for mum...

So next week ... unless anything else happens - can look at chasing the insurance etc..

Hopefully get back on the horse in the morning and use the Scrambler 1100....

What would anyone value a Multi 1200S 2017 - with 7500 miles at - Heated Grips and Stand.. Mint prior to being rear ended... so I have an idea if the insurance is way off..

  3. Can't help with value but I would be very careful.

I got turned over by an insurance company a few years back after I smashed up a Ford Galaxy. First of all, I should not of accepted that it was a write-off anyway. Secondly the value came from looking at private ads in Autotrader for cars right up North whereas I am in the South where prices are generally higher. Plus it was not bought privately but from a Ford dealer with a warranty. Admittedly the warranty had run out years ago but it still meant that I knew the history of the vehicle from day 1 and Ford where happy enough to approve it when I bought it. After a couple of hours after the phone call to get me to agree the write off, I remembered that the car was still full of my stuff including many CDs (it had a unit in the back that took about 12 CDs). I called back to ask if I could come down and collect my stuff. Too late, I was told, the vehicle has already been sold and moved - obvious crap and that sealed it that I had been taken for a mug.

If you bought your bike from a dealer then get the price that the dealer would put a bike of your condition (before it was hit) in the showroom now. That is what you need to replace like for like.

I'm assuming you are putting in a good claim for pain and suffering? May be worth getting a claims specialist involved.

  4. Sorry to hear the news. Bad things come in 3s, they say. Hopefully that'll be it over and done with now then.

  5. It's a game. The insurer will offer the lowest they can, usually something similar to that which you would obtain if you sold the bike to a dealer. Something less than it would fetch at an open auction. You have the right to question, query and argue the value. It wasn't your fault (from the post) so you it's not your insurer paying out (unless the other party was uninsured) you should get the value of a replacement bike. You should be put back in then position you were before the accident. But......... the insurer will want to pay as little as possible.

  6. Try to not let the insurance Co take the bike away before agreeing a price. I had a previous bike transported up to Newcastle, declared a write off and when I wanted to buy the salvage (damage was cosmetic only) they all but refused saying transport back would cost me on top of a very high buy back figure. New owner contacted me for tool kit etc. He'd paid about half of what they wanted to charge me...

  7. I put in a claim for my Monster a few years ago. Ducati Insurance wanted the bike to be taken to somewhere near Heathrow airport (about 100 miles away). I agreed and to be fair, the repair was faultless..BUT if anything had gone wrong with the repair or, they wanted to write the bike off, then it would of been very awkward. Although I was turned over with the car, I'm not sure what else that I could do as I don't know any trustworthy, good local bike repairers. Suppose that I could of contacted my local Ducati agent, Riders, and asked who they would use.

My local car repairer, Cromhall Restorations, (I smack cars a lot!) are not connected to any insurance company. They refuse because, they told me, the way it works is that they estimate a repair will be £2K (say) and the insurance co. say 'OK, you get £1500 and we pocket the £500'. Because they will not do a rubbish job, they refuse to be involved. They are still rammed out with repair work as you are entitled to take the vehicle anywhere that has the required standard certificates so insurance jobs are no problem. You just have to be quite belligerent and say, 'No, this is where I am taking the vehicle, so fuck you!'. I lied - I don't say the last bit - just think it!

  8. I talked to my dealer for a price and to ask if the Ever Red warantee was refundable..

He would look into the warrantee refund but said they had an 18 plate with 300 miles for 15K.. he suggested looking in Autotrader... as best valuation of what its worth... I said there was 2 for 12K... he said that seems about right...

Lets see what insurance does / company offers in the next week..
