D16 - First Ride
Fortunately the weather was okay today and I managed to avoid meetings so could pop back home for a couple of hours at lunch to take the bike out for the first time.
Sat upon the bike in my drive I was pretty nervous. Expensive bike with a reputation for not suffering fools. What if I couldn't ride it properly? What if it was a disappointment or I didn't like it?
Within a short distance of pulling away it felt different to anything I have ridden before. Front on the bike feels very agile and slightly unstable. Turning it feels a bit odd.
It is stiff. Even with the supposedly softer springs it is pretty unforgiving. I took it down a local lane that is really bumpy. Had me almost out the saddle a couple of times. Not much worse than my 899 though.
I thought after 5 minutes that comfort was going to be a problem but actually after 90 mins I was still fine.
The noise is not like anything I have experienced. Very mechanical. Very noisy. Actually quite rough. Nothing like the... -

Scratched The Itch 996sps
After many years lusting after one, I've just bought a 2000 SPS and can't stop looking at it! What a beautiful machine and what an experience it is to ride. It's completely standard and only done 11k miles and seems in great condition. It will be pampered and cherished for sure.
I just need to get a paddock stand, so on the hunt for a good one if anyone has any recommendations? -

848 Wild Atlantic Way
"We're going to Donegal October half term"..........."why don't you go on ahead on your bike"........ I wasn't dreaming. My wife, mother to our two children was saying this as casually as she might ask how we should have eggs for breakfast..... Jaw scraped off the floor I rapidly made plans to take the Honda from Holyhead to Dublin. I'd then take the direct route to Galway, overnight and then the newly signed 'Wild Atlantic Way' to Donegal where I'd meet the family.
The day before I was due to sail the Honda I'd planned to ride on broke down. Total failure, FI light wouldn't go out. I ended up abandoning it in a restaurant car park a mile from home and spending several hours retrieving my 848 which had been detailed prior to anticipated sale. Once I'd done the 30 mile round trip to its dry store resting place I then had to reconfigure my luggage choices .....I had jeans, pumps, a hat, 2 t shirts and a few days smalls.
The next day I sat in the ferry queue in torrential rain... -
Pics Of The New Bike
Picture of the new addition. Has been serviced and I had springs replaced to make it a bit softer on the road. Leaving it with standard wheels at the moment. UK bike. Assuming it goes to plan it will be delivered tomorrow.
Sorry no custard or wheelie bin involved!
Someone on here sent me a PM warning me of posting pictures unless they were cleaned of identifying data (as criminals could find location). Is that true? -

So I Just Bought A D16...
Subject to inspection by JHP I just put a deposit on a Desmo!
Excited much!!
If all goes well should be delivered at the weekend or next week. Let's hope winter doesn't arrive before then as would like at least one ride before it goes into hibernation.
Not sure whether to keep bike as standard, see how it is and how I use it before changing wheels. Is it worth switching sprigs if you keep the standard rear wheel? -
Cancer
I wish I had the voice of Homer
To sing of prostate carcinoma
Which kills a lot more chaps in fact
Than met their doom when Troy was sacked.
But thanks to modern surgeons' skills
It can be stopped before it kills
In nineteen out of twenty cases
Upon a scientific basis.
I asked a doctor, now my friend,
To peer into my hinder end
To prove or to disprove the rumour
That I had a malignant tumour.
He biopsied out some bits of tissue
In order to decide the issue.
The microscope returned the answer
That certainly I had got cancer.
So I was wheeled into the theatre
Where holes were made to make me better.
One set was in the perineum
Where I can feel 'em but can't see 'em.
Through one incision I don't doubt
The neoplasm was taken out
Along with glands and two lymph nodes
Where cancer cells might find abodes.
I'll swear without the risk of perjury
It was a fancy bit of surgery.
So do not wait for aches and pains
To have a doctor check your drains.
If he says 'cancer' you're a dunce... -
Shane ‘shakey’ Byrne (be Wiser Ducati) Wins His 5th British Superbike Championship
Unprecedented 5th British Superbike title for Shane Byrne
First British Superbike Championship win for the Ducati Panigale
Glenn Irwin back on the podium in his rookie season
Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne secured the 2016 British Superbike title at Brands Hatch beating his nearest rival, Leon Haslam with a race to spare. It was a record breaking fifth title for the Be Wiser Ducati rider and Ducati’s first British Superbike Championship win since 2008.
The weather was to be a dominant factor throughout the weekend with conditions often treacherous as the cold and wet October weather lashed the Brands Hatch circuit. It was however a broken handlebar that was to be one of the turning points of the weekend. Leon Haslam was on track for Q2 when a broken handlebar meant the Kawasaki rider had no choice but to lay down his bike to prevent a serious incident. Despite the rider being unhurt, Haslam was unable to complete Q2 and had to start from 17th on the grid.

The Globetrotter 90° torch and the Multistrada 1200 Enduro are now in the hands of Brazilian Eduardo Generali, who will cross the USA from San Francisco to Indianapolis
Borgo Panigale, Bologna (Italy), 6 October 2016 – Globetrotter 90° achieves its next target: Belgian rider Jessica Leyne, the only woman to take on this trip around the world on the Multistrada 1200 Enduro, has now concluded stage three. Deep In A Suffolk Workshop ....project 796
Sad that satellite crashed into the big lump of rock in space the other day.. However all is not lost, for nearly as long as it took for the Satellite to reach its rock, project "N" has been under wraps waiting for its moment..
Regrettably other missions including project "E" (Extension) and mission "F&P" (fence and patio) were explored first and with tight budgets imposed by my Commander in chief, that's Mrs N to you guys, who duly said " I told you not to take it to bits, you'll just have to wait now till the other projects are finished"..
A crack team of experts has been assembled for project "N" , sorry bit of a mistake there.. A team of 1, me myself and I, armed with a brand new kettle..
Big dreams are firmly in place, along with a massively small budget ( Mrs N's purse) and of course, the vital large box of tea bags..
Well at least it's on the bench now anyway...
I'm sure there's going to be many "er Huston we have a problem" moments along with lots of wrong turns too,... -
