Hello There! New To Me 996
Good evening everyone, I've recently purchased my hero bike (I'm sure the same for many others) I've never owned a Ducati before so straight in at the deep end! The bike is a 1999 996 biposto, I didn't want something too precious as I want to enjoy it for what it was meant for. I hope to find plenty of useful info on the forum.
Anyway heres some pictures, including one with a bin as I see that's a thing here!

For Sale Ohlins Fgr 800 Wsbk Forks
I bought these forks initially as part of a 1198RS WSBK build, however, I now have plans to use different forks so no longer need these.
I bought them from Germany advertised as having only been used on a show bike but they have marks suggesting they have been used in a bike, either that or the previous owners were very clumsy causing storage marks.
The forks are in really good shape. They have some marks throughout consistent with the age of FGRs but are probably one of the better examples you'll find. There are a couple of marks on the fluted outer tube but these can be turned to the inside and won't be seen.
They have 108mm caliper mountings.
The fork bottoms are in really good condition as are the inner tubes which show little to no signs of wear.
I don't know when they were last serviced but there is no fluid leaking and the seals appear good. The pictures provide a good representation of their condition so there will be no surprises.
These forks were used by all the...Wardybud Jun 21, 2023 Parts, Accessories & Clothing For Sale Read More Views: 2,968 Likes: 8 Replies: 7 -
996 996 Touring Adaptations
My best friend and touring buddy has had his 996 for almost 15 years now. We've been doing an annual tour since 2010, since our kids were old enough and partners tolerant of our absence. We did miss one year during the lock-downs.
This may possibly court controversy from the purists... Not the most practical of touring bikes he's made the best of his 996s to get him to the twisties/mountains where he can really enjoy the bike's potential.
Since the early days he made some adaptations to enable luggage carrying. Removing the pillion cover and seat to create a platform to mount an old Oxford Liftime Luggage tail-pack with the matching panniers on neat home made rails to keep them close and securely mounted but stop then sagging into the rear wheel. His minimal packing style, no idea how he does this for a 8-10 day trip, usually favours just the tail-pack.
He's an ingenious and resourceful guy, an engineer and a farmer, this year he's gone a step further. Wanting to achieve the... -

For Sale 1299 Superleggera
I’m going to sell my 1299 Superleggera as it’s, well, a lot.
I bought it in a slightly (read: massively) petulant splurge, knowing my already feeble skills were fading, and now- as predicted- it’s all too much for me, as I’m both old and useless. Which is a heady combination if what you want to do is cultivate a yucca plant, say, but not if you want to rattle around on a 200+bhp lion that’s been trapped in an oven whilst on its period.
The bike is, as you would expect, immaculate, and has spent most of the two years I’ve owned it in my front room (the first owner never rode it at all, and kept it in his front room too), but- I’m more than a little proud to say- I’ve also managed to pathetically wobble 1600 miles on to it, all of which have been epic in a way that even the V4R and Desmosedicis that proceeded it cannot touch.
The bike (No 468/ 500) has only ever been ridden by me, and has never been ridden on track. It has been fully serviced by Ducati (last serviced 150 miles... -
Trying Something Different
After 14 Ducati’s I have switched brands and ‘hope’ I haven’t made a mistake.
I love my Ducati’s but with no local dealer in my area now and end of warranty approaching soon I decided to try something different.
I haven’t been well so was going to sell both my bikes and have a break but thought ‘stuff it’ as I have always had a bike for over 40 years so jumped in with both feet.
Picked it up on Friday and first impressions are that it’s smooth, brakes are the best I have had on any bike. Steering feels quick and it will pull in 6th from 30mph without juddering.
Seat is the hardest I have even known, footrests seem higher than expected and bars are flat and wide.
The wings are a bit overkill but they are now appearing on a few bikes now.
Fitted a few bits yesterday so will have a go on my regular roads and see how it is. -

V4 V4, What A Touring Machine
Just back from a 2 week tour of Europe, and all I can say is the V4 is a perfect bike. Did a similar tour 4 years ago, on a 1200dvt, and had a great time, but went back this year on the V4 and was blown away with its all round capabilities. From Autobahn fast riding, to mountain hairpins, all day rain, to 32° heat, it never let me down. This was my wife's first big tour, and she loved it, never got the usual numb bum she got with the dvt, so happy wife is happy life. Did a few guided tours with the hotel, and we were only bike two up, and some of the single riders , struggled to keep up with us, its so planted in the corners, and just powers out of them with ease. Even the fuel economy that lots of people complain about, I averaged 42 MPG over the 2 weeks, so I'm happy with that. We even hired a BMW k1600gt for the day to see if it was better two up, and no, we will stick to the V4, better in every way. And BMW only achieved 36MPG.
Can't wait until next year, or if have the time,... -
New Pantah (well Newish)
So I decided that it was time to get back into bikes. I'm starting with the bike of my youth. 1982 Ducati 600SL Pantah, I both my first one in Australia in the early 90s. Already becoming a classic, I fell in love with it's good looks, handling, foibles and sound!
I found this one at an auction and couldn't resist. Clicked the button and Wham! there's my old Duke. now 41 years old it is in a similar shape to me, but at least road tax and insurance are better!
After some light recommissioning, my first ride was up to Ribble Head.If you've never ridden in the Dales - just do it. Best before 09:00 and after 17:00, find a hill to climb in the middle! -
New Member
Hi, I'm new to the forum. Last year I bought myself the poster bike I had on my wall as a teenager. A Red Ducati 996 Biposto on a 2002 plate. Only 3900 miles. I'm wanting to find some replacement panels. The little carbon bit below the tank are cracked. Anyone any ideas of a part number or anyone who makes/sells them? Looking forward to reading through the threads on the forum. I'm in South Yorkshire. If you're local give me a shout. Always up for a ride out. -
Retiring From Riding!
Hi All,
Thought I ought to introduce myself as I'm new here, I joined basically so that I could contact someone Stateside who uses this forum.
I've been riding bikes since I was 12, starting with old mopeds bought for a pound or two, progressing to a BSA Bantam when I was 15 which I got for free in boxes with a knackered engine, I then bought an engine from someone at my school for a few quid, followed with buying an Amal Concentric carb for 30 bob, that my woodwork teacher had as a desk ornament! It made a brilliant field bike with a set of braced scrambler handlebars!
Following that I progressed through an NSU Quickly moped at 16, then at 17 moving on to a Francis Barnet then a 250cc Greeves, Ariel 600cc VB single combo, then a '62 pre-unit 650 Triumph Thunderbird combo, which you could legally ride as a learner, passing my test later that year so that I could ride it solo. I spent some time tuning it and constantly blowing it up racing my mates who had much newer bikes, before... -

Getting Old ... Bought A Multistrada :d
Hi all,
just added a "new to me" 2014 Multistrada to my existing BMW R1200S.
Had a Monster 796 some years ago ... loved the engine but the chassis was too small for a tall guy.
Looking forward to lively conversations and to pick your brains when necessary.
Cheers

2023 Isle Of Man Tt
Thought I'd start a thread for any gossip, updates, results, times and general chat about the TT.
Practice starts next Monday (the 29th) afternoon but the tv programmes on itv4 are already up and running with the series called "no room for error" running nightly at 9 pm. It's a good watch, caught up with it this morning. -

For Sale 851 Strada Ds
Well after much deliberation I’ve finally wrestled myself into putting my 851 on the market!
1991, whilst Operation Desert Storm was in full swing, Tim Berners Lee introduced the World Wide Web and Arsenal won the league as Man U get the cup winners cup, the fine chaps in Bologna (albeit Cagiva at this point) were churning out this fine specimen.
Since then, it’s 32 year journey has seen it accumulate fewer than 12 thousand miles (11379) still resplendent in Ducati red and now sporting thunderous Termignoni exhausts and a carbon fibre front guard, (all original parts including elephant stamped Cagiva end cans will come with the bike)
The paintwork is in fantastic condition and really shines!
Original handbook and service book with a plethora of service stamps will accompany the steed!
A beautiful bike no doubt and as such has been more of an ornament for me, it hasn’t seen tarmac in 2 years, although it’s regularly run and always on a battery tender.

For Sale Gen 1 748r Coming Up For Sale.
Hi everyone. Not been on here for years!
As the title states I am putting my 748r up for sale. Y2k with 11200 miles. I have owned her for 9 years now and I never get to use her which I consider to be a waste.
Just thought I would see if there is any interest on here before going down the usual route. She is ready for belts and fluids so for that reason I'm asking for £9k. I can elaborate if there is interest or pm me. I'm in Nottinghamshire .
Cheers guys
