Hello From Northern Ireland
Hi All
I hope everyone is well and keeping positive in these hard times. I’ve been a regular visitor to the forum and thought it best to sign up when I have plenty of time on my hands. Currently have a flat track pro which I love and as with all our bikes at the minute is begging to be uncovered. Hopefully we will all be patient and can enjoy a good first ride no matter how far away it seems.
Meanwhile the forum seems to be a good substitute for all manner of things bike related or not. Told the wife I had to include a shot of our bins. I have now been told the power hosing needs done as the slabs are green. Looking forward to being an active forum member once I’ve the ever growing list of odd jobs done for the boss -
1098 1098 R Carbon Edition
My subconcious mission to make the ultimate 1098R continued a few months ago and I forgot all about it.
Now this is a silly bike that has me flipping between grinning like a Cheshire Cat and wanting to throw the thing into the nearest hedge, such is it's ridiculous nature. I've contemplated selling it a few times but can't seem to pull the trigger, often after feelings of indecision, I end up buying something for it, maybe to subconciously ensure I keep it?
Anyhoo, for a good 3 or so years, I've wanted a BST carbon fibre swing arm for it, but they are north of £3k now and I couldn't justify it (I recently bought a full bike for less). I've had them on my eBay watch list in that time and apart from a poor 2nd hand example and expensive ones in the USA, nothing has popped up, until.............October last year and a brand new one apears in.........Melbourne, Australia.Anyway, I make the guy a really cheeky offer (really cheeky
) and as...

Car Track Stuff
We are all bored aren’t we?
I’m fairly busy with my ‘real job’. But in my spare time I’m a race/motorsport coach/instructor. Last week I did a bit of FWD with our very own @Monners utilising a friend of mines company Apex Track Cars to help him get his mojo back after a big off in Jerez
anyway, some pictures.... because we are all bored.
absolutely zero reason for the post. -
996. From Ratty And Tatty To Pretty Natty
Well, many of you who follow the "What have you done today thread" may know that I have been working away on a little project (plus a very small number of those in the know).
Given the limited riding opportunities, I though it might be entertaining for some to detail what I've been up to. As I type, its getting close to being finished as I was aiming to get it taxed for 01 April. I plan to update the "story" over the forthcoming days when I get a lull in between finishing the bike off, fielding phone calls from family and friends and walking the dogs (ONCE per day mind, and then on leads).
I had been looking for a project through the winter, either a 748 or any of the 9** variants. Prices were high in the main which stopped me buying a couple of likely candidates. But, there was a 996 Biposto that seemed to be stuck at a dealers. I watched it for a couple of months.
@West Cork Paul @cookster and I got into a bit of banter on how cheap could you pick up a 996. This was... -
New Stable Mate..
Went up to Fowlers in Bristol from North Devon to collect it last week. I had a fear a lock down like this would happen and that would be it for a while..
Yes I know it's a Ducati forum ... The V4S is in the background having a new carbon belly pan fitted.
Wouldn't want it to get jealous of the new kid.. -

Corona = Finally Excuse To Restore Exhaust
I figure if I was going to be home I would finally tackle restoring the exhaust on my 848. I bought the bike used and the pipes were in a sad state with substantial tarnishing and stains. I haven't rubbed this hard for this long with my right hand since I hit puberty. Long story short, after 2 days, 8 Scothbrite green pads, half a bottle of Brasso, a 1/4 tube of Autosol, and endless regret for having even started this project I must say I am very pleased with the results.
I really like the satin finish of the pipes. I purposely left some imperfections for a more industrial look. -

The Great Ducati Forum Bake Off
As it is increasingly looking like we'll all be told to stay at home and only venture out if a key worker or for food or medicine and as it looks like that will last for at least 12 weeks, I thought I'd start a little home entertainment. Something which is practical and where people can attempt something new
.
Welcome to the Great Ducati Forum Bake Off.
Each week, on a Sunday I'll set a new baking challenge, nothing too complicated. Over the next 7 days look up a recipe for that week's challenge and have a go yourselves then post pictures of your attempts below.
Give it a go, even if you've never done it before, and post your pictures here for all to see and like. Remember you can always eat what you make and there's no need to panic buy baking ingredients
There's no reason why those with kids can't get the kids to have a go and post up their efforts as well
Week One.
Chelsea Buns.
Here's SWMBO's & my attempt. Now off you go.

Ducati Forum
Hi all.
It has occurred to me that this fantastic forum will help keep many of us sane in the upcoming months through these troubles times, especially the jokes section where Wroughtironron makes me piss myself. Also I ask myself how much risk is there in me going out for a ride , refuelling via a pay at pump and going back home again? My bike keeps saying to me let’s get out!
This forum is an incredible asset to us all, none more so than now. My thanks and gratitude to all those who keep it up and running.
I wish you and your families a safe and healthy time ahead. -

Twenty One Years Ago.....
Twenty one years ago i passed my motorcycle test . My First bike was a Ducati 600SS, I got it from a guy in Barnes London . The Moment he pulled the cover off it and started it up, I was buying it know matter what!. It was a red noisy Ducati! .
I had it for a couple of years and made some great memories on it . Going to the Manx TT with my dad and my first ride on a track at Mallory park at the festival of a thousand bikes.
Nothing is forever, and I sold it for a VTR 1000 firestorm...... .
Anyway, our very own monster owner Albie posted a pic of a 600ss he once owned on facebook . It was only my old bike!! .He had moved it on years ago to a fellow ducati man, who had then sold it on to our club member Liz Evans! . I contacted Liz a few months ago asking if she still had it, and yes she did!
Well twenty years on and she's back home!, she looks just as good as the day she went, if not even better . Yes it feels very slow and has no brakes, but I really enjoyed my first 50 mile ride... -

Ducati Closes Until 25 March To Reorganise Production Lines
The motorcycle manufacturer of Borgo Panigale extends the shutdown of the plant to 25 March 2020 to implement the safety measures to the production lines indicated by the new regulatory protocol
However, all support services for customers are guaranteed, first and foremost the supply of spare parts
Claudio Domenicali: "I am proud of how the people of Ducati are facing this difficult moment of health emergency, respecting the directives and following the instructions received."
Borgo Panigale (Bologna, Italy), 16 March 2020 - Ducati decides to extend the shutdown of its production lines to the next 25 March inclusive.
Since the beginning of the health emergency in Italy, on Monday 24 February, Ducati has adopted an important series of measures to limit the probability of the virus spreading at its plant in Borgo Panigale, in a very timely manner and in advance of later arrangements. The most important were the measurement of the temperature at each person entering the plant, trips... -

So What Did I Buy...
Okay,
I’ve got an 899 that I’ve had from new, done almost 25,000 miles on it, love the bike...most of the time!!
Problem is I did a trip in Germany 2 years ago, and it was in the middle of a 34c heatwave...the little Pani toasted my arse off!!
I vowed then that I wouldn’t do another long Euro trip on it, but I’ve got 3 jaunts this year totalling about 7,500 miles, been looking at things like an 1100 Tuono
Or a 1290GT Superduke
Even tried a Speed Triple RS ( surprisingly good! )
Then I got the Garmin routes from my mate for one of the trips , 10 days, six of which will be over 300 miles ( day 2 is over 370 miles! ) and that made me think I need to perhaps look at something that was a better mile muncher than the 3 bikes above.
I should add at this point that the 899 was staying, the new tour bike would be in addition to the 899 and would therefore not need to be as sporty biased cos I’ve already got that covered.....it needs to be, comfortable, quick, easy to live with,...
