Ian did you have to swing the engine out of the way or did you spring the frame a bit to get the bushes in. Steve
50/50 Steve. I used my engine stand to take the weight. So both wheels off the ground, front engine mount slackened off, one above the swing arm pivot removed and that’s it really. Just rocked the bike forward to make some space.

I don't know what cocktail Chizel got us on? A few of those and I'd maybe have been a bit less picky later that evening. I'm fairly sure it had the potential to increase the HP of an engine or could be used as paint stripper. It was alright after a few sips couldn't taste a thing. Those days have gone. I like to be able to account for what I've been up to, or have some idea where I am when I wake up. The time before last I went clubbing (some time ago) I ended up married. With the mag arm and RS long chain runner, now thinking the back of the bike looks better without the hugger fitted. Not wanting to shag the nice shock, I rattled up a small shock protector. It should help keep it clean.
As a matter of interest will the hugger fit the longer mag swing arm? I would think the mounting holes are further apart. As usual out standing work
Cheers mate. No, I couldn’t get the hugger to fit unless I cut the rear fixing fin off and made a new one. The fixing hole on the right of the swing arm would be out of position too. And tbh, I think it looks better without. Might even leave the swing arm cover off...
P.S I saw a DP carbon shock protector pop up on Ebay a few times and I know CM Composite make them also. As impressive as the clear protector looks, I suspect chain lube and road haze may drive you nuts.
Probably mate! The tube only cost £20 and there’s enough for 4 pieces, so I’ll just change it when it gets too bad. The carbon ones are a good option but wanted to try this first. Thanks.

Lockdown boredom kicked in again... Re lacquered the swing arm protector and fitted the RS long chain guard. Then cracked on with the DP reg plate holder. Tucking the cans right up under the seat unit made the reg plate look too low. Cut the stem just below the fixing triangle bit, cut 15mm out then rejoined the two halves back together.
Tried best I could with what I had to weigh the bike. Front showing 91.7 and rear 93.7 Kgs but that is with the rear road wheel in so maybe another 2 Kgs off that? Tank’s half full of petrol and all fluids in. IIRC the dry weight for the 998S was 198 Kgs so a fair few kilos less. Never set out on this project with the objective to lose weight but good to see.
Cheers mate. Still haven’t made my mind up tbh but I’ll leave it on for the time being... Also tried refitting the hugger this morning but didn’t like it. Thought it ruined the clean look you get without it fitted. Just trying to kill the boredom!
Since fitting the 996RS oversized airtubes I’d been thinking where to stick the front indicators. Went with some Rizoma bar end indicators. Not a big fan of these brands on my bike. Their quality is always spot on, I just don’t like the brand labelling. They are maga bright and don’t stand out when not in use.
