Personally, neither. I would source a carby blackbird. Excellent build, will do winter all day long and had for the same budget
Buy one, if you don't like it then sell it and try something else. You can't lose much at that level and you can change bike every few weeks if you want. I'd go for a BMW to start with, either an r1100s or r1150rs. Both available under £2000.
Old carby 'Blade, they are awesome and so well engineered, or a CBR 1000F - 160 mph for sod-all cash !!
