Yes, don't want to dwell on this too much though Wayne, especially as this thread started as a holiday request.
So, does any one know which fuggin mask I gotta buy ?? Bare in mind, mines got to be betterer than her's, as I'm much more important and don't want to drown my sorry ass !!
Used 2 types on holiday - One from Costco US Divers £35 I think One from Decathlon £25 ish I think Both really good, a lot easier than the conventional mask & snorkel & good field of vision. Kids found it a lot easier to use as well. They came in different sizes so best to try on before you buy.
Awesome, thanks, we were about to dump 160 quid on 2x Ocean Reef versions until I found a vid that said they were exactly the same as the Decathlon ones, cheers mate. Wayne
I like the regular type, which allow you to dive down to the reef. The full face ones I have tried were for use on the surface only.
the wife and kids use those snorkels a lot. apparently they rock. until they buy me a full drysuit i aint interested in finding out for myself
I read last night that there are now some with soft nose piece so you can equalize . We off to a dive shop today to go and have a peek at what's what.
I thought the whole benefit was that its easier to dive to the reef, as the snorkel is more effective at allowing the air way to be water free?
There could be variations but... The full face I used was great to float along on the surface, and look down. The snorkel being built into the mask and coming up from the top & centre made it easy to breathe as water didn't get into the tube. Diving down to the reef over 2.m will require equalising the pressure and that was not an option on the mask I tried as you couldn't hold your nose. There are a lot of stories circulating about the potential build up of CO2 in the full face type, but I would expect that to be a rarity. The other issue was that a standard issue mask comes off your face really easily if need be. These don't which I also didn't like. Still as a recreational diver, it may be also that I like what I am used to.
Only in the types that have a single snorkel hose, most of the newer models split the snorkel in to 3 sections, 1 wider fresh air in, and 2 CO2 vents out.
These look to do the job.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/KWLET-Snor...&qid=1535201469&sr=1-1&keywords=kwlet+snorkel
We just bought our lass a Tribord/Subea Easybreath as she only tootles along the top looking down, but the shop had nothing suitable for my needs. She needs this type as she struggles with a conventional snorkel and tends to drink half of whatever ocean we happen to be in. I don't have this issue so may yet go for a good quality conventional set up such as the Atomic Venom ??
